I haven't priced it recently but DI2 & a PM was a bout the same price as Etap last year. Maybe etap came down since.
While DI2 has wires, it's a one time installation thing. So once installed, there is not much of a difference between the 2 systems.
Electronic shifting is really nice but has no performance benefits. That being said I have it on all my bikes because it's really nice and I got it super cheap.
Having a PM for training and racing HIM is very useful. Learning to use it for other purposes such as aero testing makes it even more valuable.
A PM is a good long term performance investment. Not an absolute must have, but probably one of the best tools to own for proper dosing of training, pacing and measuring progress.
