Overall Rank = 23/322
Age Group = M2529
Age Group Rank = 7/24
Pre-race routine:

Got up at 5:15, made coffee and bagels, put my bike on the rack and left at 5:40. Arrived at race site, set up, got marked and chipped and was ready to go. I forgot my Gu, but Danielle had a spare one.
Event warmup:

Swam 100 yards or so. The water was chilly.
Swim
  • 14m 42s
  • 880 yards
  • 01m 40s / 100 yards
Comments:

I started on the far right and went harder than usual at the start. I felt good and kept a good pace the whole way, catching a few drafts here and there.
What would you do differently?:

If I had started more in the middle, I might have been able to draft off some faster people. Sprinting at the begining was a good idea, but could have capitalized on it better if I was not off to the side as much.
Transition 1
  • 01m 24s
Comments:

The t-area was moved this year and I had to run over some pavement, which hurt my feet. Ate my Gu and jumped on the bike.
Bike
  • 35m 26s
  • 13.5 miles
  • 22.86 mile/hr
Comments:

I rode hard the whole way. I got passed by some fast guys that started in previous waves and had to navigate the slow people from the later waves during the second loop.
What would you do differently?:

Just a little bit faster and I would have hit 23 mph. Maybe next year.
Transition 2
  • 00m 33s
Run
  • 25m 34s
  • 4 miles
  • 06m 23s  min/mile
Comments:

I missed the first mile marker, but got my splits for the last two. With less than a mile to go, a little old lady pulled out of a side street, didn't see me and ran into me. I fell onto her hood and then on the ground, scratching up my hands, knees and butt. I got up and kept going and the guy behind me yelled at her. If I have to get hit by a car while training or racing, I'm glad it was just a Saturn going 10 mph. The last mile I ran hard and could hear someone behind me, which pushed me harder.
What would you do differently?:

The split for the first two miles was slow, I could have picked up the pace a little.
Post race
Warm down:

I walked around, cleaned the dirt from my fall off and waited for Danielle to finish.

Event comments:

Still one of my favorite races even though I crash my bike and hit by cars. This was my fifth year here and plan on coming back every year.
