Hi...

I just wanted to say hello to everyone. I am a real beginner who has never got into any form of training let alone a running program. In fact I never liked running at school and always tried to get out of it! I am starting the Couch to 5km Program...which I believe should be perfect for me. I haven't exercised in along time...I am not sure why I picked the this sport...it is a little daunting. I have another challenge of losing weight and making huge impacts and changes in my diet!

I forward to hearing other peoples stories to keep me motivated even on the tough days! Today is my first day and its been hard to eat the right things already! But i know its going to be a big improvement...and i have nothing to lose but so much to gain!

See ya

Welcome to the club! I recently started training for a sprint and it's been going great. You won't beleive how fast you get into a routine and make positive improvements. :-)

Hi, and welcome! Congratulations on your new quest! I also find it extremely hard to eat well most days, so I feel your pain. Best of luck with your training!

It's much easier to stick with a healthy eating plan when you are training and "working out". You don't want to loose all of the hard work that you have put in that day!!

I can totally relate to never being a runner---in fact I hated it with a passion!! Always ended up wheezing and feeling horrible about not being able to keep up with the other kids in PE during school years. Now, I run at my own pace (10 minute mile), am running over a mile consistently and without any wheezing. Find a pace that is comfortable for YOU, don't worry about every one else! Can't wait to hear from you when you start to experience the "runner's high"! It's enough to get you to the gym even when you are hung over!!!

From one non-runner to another.... WELCOME!!! I'm not much of a land-threat myself, so don't ever feel self concious around here... We're all training, working, trying to improve...! Good Luck on achieving your goal(s)... When's your first race? Anything planned yet??? LW

Hi! Welcome I just started the couch to 5k, too. I am a little ahead of it though. I skipped the first month because I have already been walking every day. I just dropped weight, too. Just remember it is a journey, not a quick trip. I have been going to weight watchers.

Maybe we can support each other.

Good Luck!

Great job. You've taken the first and hardest step, and that's simply saying and planning to do a tri, now everything else is just gravy. You can do this, take your time, listen to your body, but don't be afraid to push yourself a little. I was where you are not to long ago, so far I've lost 50 pounds. This wacky idea of doing a tri has saved my life. Try to enjoy the running as much as is possible, for me the enjoyment is little if any!!

Hi and welcome...training for a specific goal is so much more rewarding than just working out. I had lost about 75 pounds just going to the gym, but was so BORED! Training for triathlon has helped me lose another 15 (10 to go) and brought so much to my life...new friends, a sense of being healthy and fit and I now WANT to eat the right things. You'll have good days and bad with training and eating, but once you finish that race...you'll want to do more. This is my first year and Ive done 7 tris (5 sprint and 2 Olympic) and one relay and look forward to every race.

Good luck with your training! And don't worry about the eating- it will come with time. Just stock your home with good and tastey choices. After training for awhile you won't want to eat junk- it shounds strange I know - but when I got to a point where I was like- "ohhh a bunch of steamed green beans would be so awesome right now" I knew I had done it.

Just take it one training day at a time and know that you are getting better!

Good luck and remember to rest- your body needs it as well!

What terrific support you all offer! The first day went really well because monday was a day off for training...I couldn't fail! The next week didn't go so well where i found it really hard to eat right and didn't even make it for a walk! Last week i could have given all the reasons why i didn't do the program instead of all the reasons why I need to. This week i have slumped out because I injured myself falling out of a 4wd straight on my bottom, so i am feeling a little sore and sorry for myself. Apart from that, I know that the training is something I really want to do so once I am not so bruised I will be right into it. Hopefully I wll start the program AGAIN next monday. Its funny the longer I leave starting this...the more I get cranky at myself...but I know eventually day by day things will improve and I will be able to fit healthy eating, training, uni, and work in to the point it will be routine and i won't need to even think about it!

Thanks for all the messeges..can't wait to write back and say I make it through a full week of eating healthy and exercising!
