I think you've made a great decision!   You'll gain so much experience and to graduate without the debt with such experience will be valuable down the road.  Please do drop in when you can and keep us informed of your going ons.

 Good Luck!

Very cool Haley. As a person who works in a VA hospital, I think what you are doing will make a huge difference to a lot of people. Way to go.

Congratulations! I recently retired as an Air Force MSC (Health Care Admin position).

The following are words of caution. They are not combat-related. Watch your back. Nurses are the poster children of 'eating their young." Seriously. You and I have completely different opinions on a few things. While there are more and more men in nursing, you'd probably have a top boss my age and my gender. Keep that in mind before fessing to kissing women, etc., etc. I'm just advising to keep that part of your life quiet.

Having said that, enjoy your time. Take care of the men and women who need your help. I always thought I'd only spend a minimun time in the USAF and ended up sticking around for 20. Nurses seem to stick around quite a bit longer because the pay scale is much more favorable in the military.

Good luck in your training and career.

No matter what mine or everyones' opinions on the war are, one fact cannot be overlooked: there are men suffering, injured, and dying everyday. If I can hold one hand, help one person feel better, the risk will be worth it.

this made me cry, haley.

we drove past the military cemetary today and ella started asking about soldiers and wars, and we were trying to explain how not all soldiers fight, or die, in war. thank you for giving of yourself to the soldiers who are suffering...and for me personally, thank you for giving me a wonderful example to share with my girls about what it means to be a soldier, and how to think of others other than yourself.

that said, this sounds more than selfless - a great opportunity for you to learn so much, travel, etc (and hey, mother theresa wouldn't have done what she did if she didn't get something out of it!).

and yes, y'all, i just compared comet to mother theresa. put that in your pipe and smoke it.

you are awesome. you are going to do a fabulous job. stop in when you can. we'll miss you, woman!

(and boy, when we were talking about ways to be a nurturing person...and you said 'yea, a nurse'...um, it made sense then...but makes even more sense now! ).

That is AWESOME!!! Congrats on your decision. I have only been on this site for a short period, but I have enjoyed reading your posts. You come across as very strong and motivated person. The Army will be stronger with you wearing the green.....and your going into a very important job. I didn't need the nurses or the docs much when I was in....but I was extremely happy to see them when I did. Every time we had an Airborne Op, I was sooo happy to see them and the Chaplains.

I know your going to be a nurse (officer)...but you have to go through basic, before the officer training... correct? If that is the case, are you going to FT. Lost Inthewoods, MO ? I think 95% of my Basic class was medical......If that is where your going...have fun running the hills. You will have a great time.

Congrats again on your decision.... I wouldn't trade my 6 years in, for anything.

AIRBORNE ALL THE WAY!!!!

Kenny

I am glad you told us of your plans.  A lot of people on here would have been wondering and worried why you were not around.  Sounds like something you've wanted to do for a while and you make a very sound decision.  I wish you the best of luck and hope everything works out how you wish.

Congratulations...a bold choice, that, as they usually do, will end up paying back much greater dividends than the sacrifices you think you are making now.

And on the 'other reason'...thank you...Those guys need all the help they can get, from you there, and us back here...remember, regardless of what side is in charge politically, these grunts don't get to choose where they go, they are just living out their governments flights of fancy...they need you, and you are doing a good thing...and the fact that you chose it, means you are doing the right thing for you too...well done

Comet,

I just came back to BT only to hear you are leaving...

I am so proud of your decision to serve though. It is not a easy decision to make in difficult times and the country needs people like you to stand up and help when things are not easy. I served 6 1/2 years as an HM 8404  4 1/2 of which were in the infantry with the First Marine Division (Kilo 3/5, STA 3/5, & HQBN MP Co.). My time in the service was some of the best and worst times of my life all at the same time but I would never trade it for anything.

I decided to leave the medical field when I was done serving, but the experience has gotten me to we here I am today. In less than a year you will be a better and stronger person than you ever thought possible. The army will change you forever but I can guarantee you that you will never want to trade the experience for anything and you will make friends that will stick with you for life.

From a highly motivated Devil Doc to a brand new army dogie Semper Fi and Ooh-Ra Comet!

Comet,
Congratulations on you decision and thank you for your decision Being retired navy myself I can tell you the nurses doctors and other medical professionals in the military are extremely important to the solders, sailors, airman, and marines in there care. The service you give to both the military personnel and to their family is extremely important.

Thank you.
