the bear - 2006-11-29 11:19 AM Do you know of anyone who has had his money application refuse?

I suspect that they would not send them a "Sorry, you stink ..." letter but just not respond at all.

The advertisement said that they were limiting it to the first 500 applicants, not 500 pre-qualified applicants.  Think this is more along the lines of Team Javelin marketing than anything else.

What ever happened with Team Javelin? I was sort of out of the loop with that one. Did it make it? Did it go under?

The deadline for this is tomorrow, Dec 1. I wish there was a way to apply by email but they seem to want a snail mail app. I may send one in just to see. I'll sell myself out as a walking billboard for free crap stuff.

Think of it like this.  You use GU right?  They usually retail for $1.00-$1.25/each.  The $189 package comes with 4 boxes of 48 Gu - 192 total.  Thats AT LEAST $192 worth of Gu right there.  If you dont use that much, you can always ebay it and keep the rest of the schwag.

I'm assuming that I was one of, oh say 100,000 applications.  I was chosen because in some way, I'm a better human being and more deserving; that my triathlon prowess is surpassed only by my girth.  That I am the "chosen one".  The Neo of Gu Sports.

I shall remain in this delusional fantasy until my medication wears off.

There's probably language in the sponsorship contract that says you can't sell your stuff. There is in my PowerBar agreement.

Not the clothing or anything but just the gu or Gu2o.  How'd they know if you sold a bunch of Gu?  Im not saying Im going to do it either.  That stuff is like gold to me.  I like it lots.

Just sayin....

Think they are still around ... saw plenty of folks wear their orange gear last year.  While they were one of the pioneers of this marketing effort, think they fell off to the wayside in that aside from a cheap outfit there was no there there - outside of a 'deal' on a bike or Xero wheels.

The Team Gu scenario is a bit different in that it offers a significant discount on products that folks consume most training days.

Thanks for the info. I thougtht they went under because at the CA 1/2, I didn't see anyone wearing it and I know that's a big race.

Yea, I really like this opportunity. Like someone mentioned before, even if you just buy the package and not wear their stuff in a race (sponsorship part), you still come up on top since it's like ~1.25 for one GU and the b package is $189 for 200 GU packs and not even counting the other stuff you get.

But i'm going to wear it to get my free stuff in the races. I'm already plotting out how to get the max points next year

They could troll e-bay. But it's a bit unethical to sign a contract saying you won't do something, and then go and do it. I see PB stuff on ebay all the time that i just know comes from Team Elite members.

WELCOME to TeamGu Congratulations! After careful consideration and serious scrutiny we would like to offer you a spot on the long awaited, first ever, awe inspiring, lycra crased, nurtitionally superior TeamGu.  You'll find all of the details for the 2 options below, so choose wisely ..."

Just got the letter today and will prolly do the $189 offer ... and, depending upon how comfortable the top is, will do the points thing in order to garner some free schwag.

What I like about these cats is that they do not take themselves to seriously - and, buying all up front like this, is still a lot cheaper than the stores (even Performance).

Hello team GU!

I thought that I would give this teamGU a go as well (didn't turn in the paper work until December 1st, but they still let me play-got the letter yesterday!).  Anyway, I've never tried GU2O, and was wondering if you all had any suggestions for good flavors?

Thanks much.

Congrats. Looks like we will have a pretty decent sized BT TeamGU.

I went with the vanilla (bean) and chocolate to be safe. The other flavors just seemed too fruity for me.

I took my standards for the gels, Lemon Sublime and Tri-berry.

As someone who's never used the Gu2O I went with the Lemon-Lime and Orange. And I signed up for the $189 one (sent it in Thurs.).

200 Gu's at $1 a piece and 4 canisters of Gu2O at $15 a piece. That's $260 worth of product at retail cost (online ordering) for $189 not too mention all the other stuff I'll get with that package and since I'm already signed up for a 70.3 HIM and a full IM that's 200 of the 300 points available right there. I'll gladly pimp my body!! Everyone does it already by buying clothing from a certain manufacturer and whatever bike and helmet they wear!

Can't wait until March to see what the clothing looks like. Maybe I can convince them to give me points for wearing it at Boston ........

Thanks for the flavor suggestions!  I too figure I'll be a biking, jogging, walking billboard for free stuff...it seems like a good deal for the other stuff as well.  Good luck to everyone getting as much free stuff as allowed.

I was about to send my check and I thought...

I like Accelerade better than GU2O.

I like Hammer gels better than Gu.

I hate to turn down the super discount on the stuff..but I'm gonna stick with what I normally use.

Accelerade used to be my favorite drink ... until a ride through the Gaps last summer.  It was a hot day and that stickly sweet drink was just a little too much to replentish nutrition + hydration (and keep it down).

Stick with what works - or, in my case, change from something that doesn't.  In the end, I believe 80% of it is about taste as the leading brands pretty much do the same thing is replentishing your nutrients/15% about price. (The other 5% is protein vs. non-protein ... and let's not go into that argument )

Just curious if anyone will admit to being turned down or it this was an accept all applicants marketing ploy. I sent in my letter several weeks ago and haven't heard back. I'm only in my 2nd season and only raced 2 sprints last year, so it wouldn't destroy my ego completely if they turned me down. I'm just curious if anyone else is in the same boat
