Update on the TeamGU "sponsorship" opportunity .......... (Page 2)

I suspect that they would not send them a "Sorry, you stink ..." letter but just not respond at all. 

The advertisement said that they were limiting it to the first 500 applicants, not 500 pre-qualified applicants.  Think this is more along the lines of Team Javelin marketing than anything else.

 Think of it like this.  You use GU right?  They usually retail for $1.00-$1.25/each.  The $189 package comes with 4 boxes of 48 Gu - 192 total.  Thats AT LEAST $192 worth of Gu right there.  If you dont use that much, you can always ebay it and keep the rest of the schwag.

I'm assuming that I was one of, oh say 100,000 applications.  I was chosen because in some way, I'm a better human being and more deserving; that my triathlon prowess is surpassed only by my girth.  That I am the "chosen one".  The Neo of Gu Sports.

I shall remain in this delusional fantasy until my medication wears off. 

There's probably language in the sponsorship contract that says you can't sell your stuff. There is in my PowerBar agreement.

Not the clothing or anything but just the gu or Gu2o.  How'd they know if you sold a bunch of Gu?  Im not saying Im going to do it either.  That stuff is like gold to me.  I like it lots.

Just sayin.... 

Think they are still around ... saw plenty of folks wear their orange gear last year.  While they were one of the pioneers of this marketing effort, think they fell off to the wayside in that aside from a cheap outfit there was no there there - outside of a 'deal' on a bike or Xero wheels.

The Team Gu scenario is a bit different in that it offers a significant discount on products that folks consume most training days.

They could troll e-bay. But it's a bit unethical to sign a contract saying you won't do something, and then go and do it. I see PB stuff on ebay all the time that i just know comes from Team Elite members.

Just got the letter today and will prolly do the $189 offer ... and, depending upon how comfortable the top is, will do the points thing in order to garner some free schwag.  

What I like about these cats is that they do not take themselves to seriously - and, buying all up front like this, is still a lot cheaper than the stores (even Performance).

I thought that I would give this teamGU a go as well (didn't turn in the paper work until December 1st, but they still let me play-got the letter yesterday!).  Anyway, I've never tried GU2O, and was wondering if you all had any suggestions for good flavors?

Thanks for the flavor suggestions!  I too figure I'll be a biking, jogging, walking billboard for free stuff...it seems like a good deal for the other stuff as well.  Good luck to everyone getting as much free stuff as allowed.

I was about to send my check and I thought...

I like Accelerade better than GU2O.

I like Hammer gels better than Gu.

I hate to turn down the super discount on the stuff..but I'm gonna stick with what I normally use.

Accelerade used to be my favorite drink ... until a ride through the Gaps last summer.  It was a hot day and that stickly sweet drink was just a little too much to replentish nutrition + hydration (and keep it down).

Stick with what works - or, in my case, change from something that doesn't.  In the end, I believe 80% of it is about taste as the leading brands pretty much do the same thing is replentishing your nutrients/15% about price. (The other 5% is protein vs. non-protein ... and let's not go into that argument )

I got a order form also today, I think I have changed my mind. I will take the money and use it for a race entry instead.
