Pre-race routine:

Woke up at 6:00am, showered, ate a banana. Walked Gigi before I left for the park. I got there at about 7:15, with just enough time to park, pick up my timing chip, drink some gatorade, and make my way to the start. They ended up starting the race after the 10K started, about 10 minutes later.
Event warmup:

Warmed up by walking from my car to the start, and then jogging in place, and stretching.

Comments:

This was a good race for me. I started off by slowly jogging and walking intermittently. About a mile into it, I was jogging more than I was walking. I felt good, my knees didn't bother me at all, and I just felt like I could jog some more. I felt so good by the end of mile 2, that I decided to try and jog the remaining mile. And but for two instances where I walked for about 4 steps, I said to myself, "no... keep jogging!" - and I did. I was able to jog for the last 1.1 mile! Yeah! I felt good, and not too winded. It was hard... but not painful! I felt strong when I finished!
What would you do differently?:

This was my first event after my surgery last month. I don't think I could've done anything differently.
Post race
Warm down:

Walked around, drank some gatorade, and ate a couple of fig newtons. I stretched a little bit... should've stretched a bit longer.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

I can only go up from here.

Event comments:

This was a nice race to get back on the horse with. I did better than I ever dreamed. It felt really, really good to not finish DFL, and it felt really good to actually pass people... albeit people who were walking, but I didn't care. While on my last mile, I said "Happy Thanksgiving" to a lady who was walking at a steady pace. She reminded me of me, and she happily returned the greeting. After the race was over, I ran into her again as I was walking to my car. She said that this was her first event, and that my greeting gave her a "second wind" and was happy that I had said it. Wasn't that nice of her? This was one Thanksgiving I have a lot to be grateful for. On to the next race!

Great job! Glad to hear you felt strong as this was the first race after your surgery. Keep it up, looks like you just keep losing and losing weight.

Awesome job Cari!  The best race is always the one where you feel like you couldn't have done any better and you feel GREAT!

Way to go!
