Pre-race routine:

Slept like crap. Up at 6:30 toast and a little water (not enough). KenJ pick me up at 7:30 and drove 40 minutes to race. Had to stand in lines for packet p/u and then again to get shirt. Too long standing around and not warming up.
Event warmup:

Stretched and ran in place a little. Turns out work to hard on right leg.

Comments:

Wind blowing at 20-25 mph. Ouch! It sucked. The left anterior tib did not want to run at all. Mile 1 went well Ken and I stayed close. 8:04 mile maybe a little to fast. Mile 2 the left shin started to talk to me bad. I lost my santa hat and to turn to get it. Just after the water station I stopped to stretch left calf. Bad idea was worse after. Couldn't anywa to relieve it with foot placement. 8:54 mile 2. Becam more of a shuffle after that. Stopped to retie left shoe. Then the right shoe cam untied. If there had been a coffe shop I would have got coffee. Picked it up some at the end and got a good cheer from Ken and M-daddy on the way in. Thanks guys.
What would you do differently?:

Warmup more and loose wgt. The gain on 10 pounds from summer is killing me. I need to get on the stick and hopefully this is the wakeup call.
Post race
Warm down:

Stretch and stretch again. Got some coffee and soup. Kam31 won her age group. Mike and Ken did well.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

A big fat gut. Poor warm up.

Event comments:

I am disappointed in this race. I had hoped to finish well and started out OK.
Standing in line too long to get packet was a pain and they need to fix that area.
Ugh!!!!!!

I'm sorry it was so miserable out there today. How are the shins and calves? Sounded painful, but you still did really well, maybe not for your standards, but a sub-9 min mile is awesome in my book anyday, especially on a day like today! Good job!! Now go and get a nice hot cup of coffee, warm yourself by a fire and enjoy the rest of your day. You did great!

Nice photo!!

You really did have a hard time this morning didn't you?!?! I didn't realize that when we were standing around talking. Sorry... But, how could you have raced any faster with pains like you had?! And, of course you had those pains, 'cuz the race organizers didn't give us nearly enough time to warm-up because of those crappy long lines!! See, it's not your fault

Speaking of weight, I'm up at least 7 lbs! Maybe we can start our own weight loss challenge. But, not until AFTER the holidays, of course! That hat must have weighed at least 2 lbs...

You did very well considering your shin splints, the weather, and wardrobe malfunction.  I really enjoyed the morning.

Way to finish Dudley! Sounds a lot like my Skinneatles run. I was ready to look for a coffee shop and hang it up. Nice job sticking it out!

The weight will come off, use this as motivation. I'm in on the challenge if you take Kam up on her challenge.

You stuck with it, despite the foot problems and gale force winds. I wouldn't have known that you were having issues, as you looked comfortable coming across the finish line.
Good job!
