In 2003 I flew into Tallahassee and drove over to Panama City. The drive is not that bad and is about 1 1/2 to 2 hours depending upon traffic Panama City.

This year we booked early and all five of us are flying into Panama City Beach for less than $1500.

Just an estimate on NO to Panama City - 1 1/2 hours from NO to Gulfport, 1 hour from Gulfport to Mobile, 2 hours from Mobile to Panama City Beach. 4-4 1/2 hours?

What you thinking about time? 16-18 hours? I grew up in Hagerstown and my Dad is driving down from there on the 1st. Pretty sure he is planning about 18 hours.

Count me in for IMFL! What is it now? Less than 50 days till detonation????? Wooohooooo!!!!!
I'm going to hit the Wilson 100 for my 2nd longest ride this year. I did my first 'long' ride last weekend (6hrs) I feel like I'm a little behind on the long rides for this race. Before last weekend, I have only done a 4hr and 3:45 ride.... There's still 8 weeks left- got to get moving.....

My longest bike so far is 4.5 hours(with an additional 30 minute run at the end) with another of the same distance this weekend. But...the next 4 weeks following this one are all progressively longer long rides (5.0, 5.5, 6.0, 6.0) before the taper. I'm following the beginner plan from this site with a few changes to meet my needs.

I do plan on one additional long ride more than this plan calls for (the extra 6.0 so I will have visited the century mark twice)....of course I've never done a full IM before so I have no idea whether what I am doing will work well or not. I did do a couple of centuries earlier this year so I feel somewhat comfortable with the distance....but I can't say that I felt like was itching to run a marathon when I was done

I overtrained for Oceanside earlier this year so I'm trying to hold back this time. The next four weeks are the crux of building endurance in this plan. Seems like using this plan everything to this point was building the base necessary to do the next 4-5 weeks. Would guess that most plans are similar with more advanced distances/training techniques for those competing at a higher level. I'm just trying to finish in a reasonable time and have fun.

Anyone taking their kids and going to be there for Holloween? I called the Boardwalk and they are not doing anything but someone from the Chamber of Commerce replied that Zoo World and the Panama City Mall both have trick or treating for the kids....Zoo world sounds fun and we plan to do it as we are arriving on Tuesday night.

I'm so relieved you mentioned the halloween thing!  I haven't told my kids they will be in a car for 12 hours on halloween and not be in town with their friends.  Maybe we'll leave tuesday after work and do some of the trip so they can get in town in time to do the trick or treat thing on wednesday!

Training this weekned will be a 6.5 hour brick on saturday(same as last week, but I only did a 5 hour ride - we had complications) and a 1:45 swim/2 hr. run/2hr. bike on sunday.  That's alot for me, but I think I can do it.  Can only hope for a rest day on monday!  In the last week I've started feeling like "Hey, I think I can do this", as I've had things start to really come together.

Well, it is looking more and more like it will just be me coming down and not the wife and kids.  Gonna suck missing Halloween with the little ones, and it will be lonely without them, but taking them out of school for a week is not as doable as we would like.

Soooooo, depending on how things hash out, I might have a bedroom in my condo. available for anyone single/couple that needs a place.  I'm staying in the Ocean Villa Condominiums just down the beach from the race hotel and have a 2 bedroom/2 bath place.  If there is anyone interested in splitting the costs the place is around $200/night with taxes and I have it reserved from Weds. night through Sunday night (5 night stay).  That way there is a day to recover and watch the awards/Kona roll-down before getting back on the road again.

Anyone interested PM me or post and I'll find out for sure what the wife's intent is so we can make arrangements ......

Anyone else getting a bit paranoid about injury/sickness? Any little sniffle and I'm reaching for the airborne...washing my hands a lot....smoothies with an immune system boost, etc. Not sure any of it helps but mentally atleat I feel like I'm being proactive.

Also, woke on Tuesday with a weird pain on top of my left foot up near the ankle. That was a day off for me and I had a Dr. appointment that morning (followup for ITB issue that has since passed). He said it should not be a problem and was just an ache. Lasted all day and felt it this morning as well. Ran 8 miles on it (very slow) and it was tender for first 1/4 mile but went away and is not a factor now. Some of these pains are strange in how they come and go.

I'm taking this as a warning shot across the bow, could be easy to overdo it the next few weeks and get injured right before the event. Wouldn't be the first time for me. Anyway, maybe I shouldn't have run on it this morning but sometimes it's hard to tell when something is a soreness v. a specific pain. Feels fine right now so I'm hoping it was just a pain from a long weekend of training....the day of rest was probably good for it as well.

Everybody stay healthy....don't want to get injured now.

I seem to have some little ache or pain every other day that doesn't last. As for the illness thing, I am dealing with a bad cold now thanks to our youngest child. They are always bringing home things to share. I get to see what it's like to do a long bike while semi-under the weather tomorrow. I figure it is good practice just in case.

I'll see you there...I'm scheduled for a 5 hour ride, so I may either add some miles on the 70 miler, or do more drafting than I'd prefer and do the 100

I got some quality training in this past weekend and will be at Chesapeakeman this coming weekend working on pacing and nutrition.  My running is a little behind where I'd like to be but that's only because I can't train for a flat out marathon.

No injuries right now. My number one goal is to arrive healthy. I'm hoping to stay this way for just another 5 1/2 weeks.

Training is going well. This is the first time in a long time that I've welcomed all of the workouts and am really enjoying it without the burnout factor hitting me.
I'm a little worried about it possibly being a little warm on the run at FL, but that's beyond my control and nothing some nutrition won't take care of hopefully.

I'm doing the South Carolina 1/2 ironman on Sunday with no taper and will use it to practice my bike pacing and nutrition as well.
Hope everyone can stay healthy. We've really just got one last push over the next 3 1/2 weeks and then we can start tapering a little!!!!!

During the last 2 months before the race, I was going to try to lay off the beer (my willpower during football season is killing me) and eat perfectly. I'm almost were I want to be weight-wise for this thing, but have a couple more pounds to take off.

Yeah, I'm really trying to tighten up my diet and be strict.  I generally eat very healthy but I'm sure I could cut 2-300cal per day that I just don't need.  With 5 weeks to go I'd like to be down 3-4lbs by race day.

I, too, have cleaned up my eating (except for the occassional slip ) and have decided to go alcohol free for the 60 days leading up to the event.  I could use more sleep, but otherwise feel training is going well and on track.  Getting excited for the day!!!

I had a relatively light but good weekend.  Today was a nice rest and massage.  Tomorrow I start my last big push through Sunday and then one last loooong ride late next week.  Almost time to kick back and let it all soak in.  I feel ready.

Just coming off my last long workout week/ weekend. Tapering for me has started this week- 17.5 hrs, then 15. Not sure after that as I haven't gotten my schedule. I raced the South Carolina 1/2 ironman on the 30th and it seems that since then, mentally it's been a struggle to get out the door. Feeling sore and tired most of the time. I think it's time to get some massage sessions in the books!

Oh- Has anyone procrastinated as bad as I have? I'm calling today to find accomodations!
