Champion ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() devouahy, The elevation graph is with respect to the origin and is the actual route profile, so yes, there will be positive and negative elevations (which will equal each other) to return you to your original point (what goes up, must come down). The reported 'Total elevation' or 'Climbing' is the sum of all the 'positive' elevations. Assuming I'm reading your question correctly. I can look at it more if you give me the name of the route. http://www.beginnertriathlete.com/discussion/training/map-routemgr.asp?memberid=49889 |

Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Thanks. The profile to the question was "Red Rock Visitor Center Loop - 32 miles". All the other profiles look good except for one "Southest bike shop loop" which is a slow gradual climbing slop on the way out, and mostly all slow downhill on the way back. Some how, the climb data jumps from 260 feet to 2000+ feet in less than a few point, which I know is wrong. Can you please assist on that profile. If you look at the side profile, it should only be around 800 feet or so for the whole ride. That's all from me, and thanks for the great work on this task. |

Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Just to echo the thousands before me. This is one of the coolest additions yet to a truly excellent site. Many thanks to both Ron and marmadaddy! I quickly entered three routes, and greatly appreciate the total elevation gain. No more having to figure it out on my own. Will there be a way to save races to a publicly accessible area in the future? It would be great to look at actual course elevations before doing a race to better know what you're getting into. Thanks again! |

Champion ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() devouahy, For route http://www.beginnertriathlete.com/discussion/training/map.asp?routeid=684 We will have Mike input on this...i see where the data is represented on the map, but that elevation change is not being reflected in the elevation graph...so I don't know what's going on I think it's with the 'climbing' calculation as the absolute elevation (above sea level) values between the two points don't show that difference....it shows up in the total climb data, the hover box, but not in the graph. It's like the point in question is adding the absolute elevation back into the 'climbing' value for all remaining points... Here is the attached pic with the 2 points in question: ALSO, here is the math to this problem: *For the second point (first one on the map), subtracting 'above sea level' from 'climb' you get 2934-2645=289 feet, This difference corresponds ALMOST to the first points 'climb' value of 260 plus the elevation change between the two points (2645-2618=27feet)...this is how we calculate 'climb'...SO that second point (first on the map) should have a calculated climb of: 260+27=287 feet ...its off by about 2 feet from 289 probably due to rounding or kept decimal places. So somehow at that point, it ADDS back in the absolute value of the elevation to the climb value...which is wrong... Marmadaddy will figure out the issue.... devouahy - 2007-01-30 7:07 PM Thanks. Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Ron, If you look into the lists that I have, I have remaped the course labeling it "Southwest Bike Shop Loop - 19 miles". When you no longer need the old one that shows the wrong elevation, just email me so that I can delete the bad profile. Thanks. |

Elite ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() This is the coolest thing ever just because of the fact that it's integrated with BT. As an extra added bonus, of the routing sites I've tried (like gmaps, toporoute, mapmyrun, etc), it is absolutely the BEST one out there: fast, lots of tools (loop, how cool is that?!), elevation, multiple routes for bricks, etc, etc, etc. You guys continue to totally rock. I don't understand why every triathlete doesn't use this site for logging! |

Extreme Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I believe it was mentioned and no doubt it has been in the works; but it will be great to have race reports tied to the map feature. It will give a whole new dimension to race reports to see the course and elevations mapped out! |

Champion ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Once you build-up a lot of routes, the NEW 'filter' that we just added in the route-manager will be nice. Filter by: All, Swim, Bike, Run, Brick, Race Sort by: Date created, Frequency Used and Name. http://www.beginnertriathlete.com/discussion/training/map-routemgr.asp |

Extreme Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I will NEVER get any "work" done at work now. Way to busy mapping out routes! Hehehehe. At least people looking at me in front of my computer will "think" I'm busy with all the little mouse clicks I'll be doing mapping out my routes. Ya Whoooooo! Thanks dudes! |

Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() For some reason I can't get it to work for me here, I'll keep playing around with it. I'm guessing it's the route planner from http://www.gmap-pedometer.com if so, is it going to be possible to save the URL to your route planner, if not, then forget I said anything. This is a 2K loop I use near my home http://www.gmap-pedometer.com/?r=690611it would be fairly cool to be able to plan your route on the big main site and just save the r= number. Champion ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Can you be more specific about how it doesn't work? We don't use gmap-pedometer.com in any way. Our route tracker is built on the Google Maps API as is that site which is why they look similar. We get our maps from the same place: Google. For legal and contractual reasons, the Google Maps API doesn't allow searches for addresses in the UK. Some sites are using workarounds for this, but they appear to be in violation of the Google Maps Terms of Use. There are also some pay services that charge on a 'per search' basis but they're relatively expensive.

Pro ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() marmadaddy, I just tried to route a ~22 mile bike route and two things:
FYI, I can lay the same bike route on Gmaps without any slowing of the application... I have nothing but IE open. Oh, on emore thing, could it be possible to sort the routes by type instead of just the name? Edited by Donto 2007-02-08 3:39 PM |

I'm in the process of creating version 2 which is going to be much faster with longer routes. 2. Saving: this should be an easy fix. 3. Sorting on the Route Manager page is coming. |

Type is not listed. I guess I could rename the routes with B-R-S first to sort on the name that way for now. |

I was looking for the Show 'All' then a secondary 'Type' sort so that they grouped together by the type not by name/date/freq. |
