I have been feeling really bummed out since my last Tri on Saturday! I disqualified myself because I went backwards on the bike portion. I didn't realize it until I had gone about 5 miles out of my way. At that point I didn't want to turn around because I knew my time wouldn't be any good. I went ahead and  finished the entire race because I didn't want a DNF. If I had done it right I would have placed 2nd in my age group.

Has anyone out there ever done anything like this during a race? I have another race on 8-29-04, but I am not looking forward to it like I have all my other races. I could really use some encouragement. Thanks in advance!!

Wait- you would have finished 2nd , right- so CELEBRATE- and put it behind you- that was yesterday- time to focus on placing in your next race- and be sure to ride the course first -!

You ARE going to do the late August tri because you want encouragement, you already know it!!

Learn something from your last race, keep that bit of "won the hard way" wisdom and FORGET everything else about it.

For the next race, go over the couse if it is possible. If not, get a good course description and maps and study that.

Then do the next TRI, do GREAT, and relish the high of performing your best!

yup, went the wrong way on the bike course at the Danskin Tri in '01.  Didn't even know I'd been DQ'd until I got home and saw the results online.  I swore off Danskin forever at that point, but in reality a better plan was to go back and kick it's butt, so that's what I did this year.  Some day I'm gonna go back and hammer on that DNF @ Tupper Lake as well.

Now get out there and kick but next week!

Shake it off. Don't dwell. You've got another one coming up next week. Let that be your FIRST one. The other one was like a mock tri, a dry run, a tri where you learned what to do and what not to do. Learn and move on. So what's your time going to be on the next one partner?

Don't feel too bad. Learn from mistakes and get better.
