Rattlesnake TRi/Du Series - TriathlonSprint

Overall Rank = 166/175
Age Group = 31
Age Group Rank = 0/
Pre-race routine:

Woke up before the sunrise. Which was difficult since I stayed up past 11 p.m. wathing "Underworld." I had seen this "B" movie with A special effects at the theater but I got a kick out of the lovestory between the Vampire and the Liken. Probably shouldn't have watched "Anaconda," either right before an open water race. But heck I don't have cable at home so this is the only time I get to watch it!
Checked out and drove to race site. Transition area was first come first serve to I parked my bike next to the front. This was my first event with men at the same time so it was kinda' interesting doing set up. I was laying out all my stuff - red Michael race prep story and had everything together - but couldn't find my timing chip. I started to panic a little and this guy was like Aw don't worry about it I'm sure they have another one. He didn't seem to realize that I didn't want to pay the $30 to replace one. But found the chip in my trusty bike pack.
Event warmup:

Ate 1/2 cup of yogurt and a plum. Too nervous to eat much. Put on wetsuit and went down to the beach for swim start.
Swim
  • 09m 59s
  • 500 meters
  • 01m / 100 meters
Comments:

WOO HOO, WOO HOO, WOO HOO. Sorry I'm just a little excited. My swim was under 2 min per 100 m. I'VE NEVER GONE LESS THAN 2 MIN PER 100 M in practice or any of my other races. I was so stoked about this. I didn't found out about it until after the race. But after finding out about this I didn't care about the bike and the run. Yeahhhhh!
What would you do differently?:

I am very happy with my swim. The water was cold and it took me a while to get used to it. But after the fist 200 m, boy I really turned it on. Several swimmers passed me on the way out but on the way back I passed them all and then some. I had a great swim race.
Transition 1
  • 08m 57s
Comments:

This was a little crazy. I couldn't get my darn wetsuit off. Even though they had strippers there's just something weird about strangers taking off anything from your body even if it is a wetsuit. I couldn't take the chance of a boob popping out and embarrassment so I decided to off the wetsuit myself. BAD IDEA. Took toooooo long. OMIGOD I would have came in under two hours if I had a quicker transition time! Ughhh!
What would you do differently?:

Use the strippers!
Bike
  • 1h 01m 35s
  • 12 miles
  • 11.69 mile/hr
Comments:

I suck at bike.
What would you do differently?:

No suck at bike.
Transition 2
  • 01m 29s
Run
  • 49m 40s
  • 3 miles
  • 16m 34s  min/mile
Comments:

Ran as much as I could. Have to see my times to seehow good I really did.
Saw my results and they sucked. Oh well. It's on the treadmill this winter.
Post race
Warm down:

FREE FOOD. Sat down and had lunch with a couple of newbies.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Uh, I'm slow!

Event comments:

This by far has been the best race. Just the right amount of people and well organized! Loved the course even the bike and really enjoyed myself. I think it's the first time I just went out there and had fun. Danskin was all about training but this one was all about fun.
Hey, I kicked butt on the swim!
Doing the same course was great. I just realized that I improved on every leg. My swimming, biking and running were all faster than my last tri at this course. Guess training is paying off. My transition time was a suckier though. Ugghhh. Got to practice getting that wetsuit off! Woo Hoo. I'm a stud. Yeahhhhh!

Ovetta, hey there. Was interested in how things went with your triathlon, but there's not much info in the race report. Let me know when you get it completed, I sure hope all went well!

Great race Ovetta...sounded like you had fun, and that's the most important part!  I have yet to be in a triathlon where they have strippers.  I hope when I do that at least they are good looking!

I guess I'm a machosist. All night I kept going, "I shouldn't be watching this. I shouldn't be watching this. OK I'm going to watch just a little bit." Maybe that's why I swam so fast, I thought I was being chased by an Anaconda!

Now I'll have to go see Open Water before the Fall Chill. That's my longest swim distance this year so I'll need extra motivation. Is that a shark I see????

Yeah Kim,

We all definitely should do one together next year. The Rattlesnake is a series. So they have two. Fall Chill is going to be COLD! But we can all do one early in the year. Woo Hoo. It felt so great to finish my third this season. Yeah doggies!

Great Race Ovetta!

Super Swim. Next time you have to go for the strippers! You got to love a sport that has volunteers to help you get undressed

Maybe I will get a chance to meet some of my east slope BT friends soon. I am racing in Boulder next week in the last Race the Rockies Race at the Res.

Ovetta,

This is awesome. Congratulations on a great finish! I wish I could hit the swim times like you do. That is incredible. I was wondering if some kind of lubricant (e.g. Body Glide or Pam) would help in getting the wetsuit off at T1?

Oh man, I didn't know you were going to be there. I would have looked for you. I was the one who finished backwards ie, with my butt to the finish line because they couldn't read my race number as I had it tied on my jacket and then took it off and wrapped it around my waist. The announcer said it was the best finish all day and announced my name over the loud speaker. He also said it was the best view, which made me think he didn't like my face very much!

I LOVE SEATTLE! Went there for a glorious week about ten years ago (OMIGOD, I'm old enough to actually say I did something ten years ago?????). Took the ferry to Bainbridge Island and then went sailing. Hated sailing, too much motion. Now I swim in that water, go figure.

Any great tri's out your way, you might get to meet me. I'm planning a tri around the world year where I can do tri's and mission trips all over the globe. Seattle's as good a place to go as any!

Yeah, I was kind of in a daze as well. But got stoked after I found out about my swim time! Now I just got to work on the bike and the run! (Uggghhhh).

The water was cold, ironically though I think I prefer cold water. Going to swim again today at Chatsfield State Park. Hopefully it's not too cold.

Man, I'm so bummed I missed meeting a fellow BT er.

Any races upcoming for you?
