Run
Comments: When I run I don't recall much so let me give you what I do recall - The course is a mixture of paved streets & brick roads during the first half - The first half of the course seemed almost downhill... the rest was a bit hilly (that's putting it mildly) - Every time I would get a step ahead of Shannon she would say "WAIT"... I'm like Shannon... "I'm not leaving you".... ha ha She wanted me beside her... which works in theory but sometimes it just doesn't workout like that... - Around the middle of the race Shannon mentioned she was hungry... I told her next aid station she could stop... she never stopped for food. - Mile 10 Shannon was positive that she was on mile 11.7 (she memorized the race map) I didn't have the heart to tell her hat she was mistaken so I let her discover the hard way. - Mile 11 or so we see a guy on the ground having seizers (fyi: people were helping him and we could hear the sirens blaring behind us... nothing we could do )... not good... we both ran by w/o acknowledgment what we both saw. - Mile 12 Shannon is running very strong and the course is very hilly at this point... Shannon tells me she going to walk... I recall telling her that she can walk at the top of the hill... At the top of the hill we walk for just a second... we start running again and I notice that the ITB on my right leg is killing me... (this sucks) - Mile 13 ahhhh we enter the stadium Shannon sprints to the finish with me limping behind her After we finish Shannon walks off trying not to get sick.... (this is such a horrible feeling...) I bump into another BT'er Judd Shea (aka runpuddrun)... I introduced Shannon to him & his wife... Shannon was not feeling good at this point so the small talk with Judd & his wife was cut very short.... We take a 1/2 mile trek to my car only to find it stuck in the mud... nice... but we get some peeps to push us out... no big deal just a little mud on the tires. Driving home Shannon starts feeling better and we reflect back on the race... She crushed her goal so she is very pleased... I'm very proud of her ... now her next step is a marathon :) Post race
Event comments: This race is very organized with a RD who is a runner and understands the needs of the runners on race day Last updated: 2007-03-06 12:00 AM

I drove over to Shannon's house and picked her.... she was lallygagging around... I'm like "Shannon let's go!!!!!" She informs that she only got 4 hours of sleep (fyi: Shannon is a bit of a high maintenance sleeper who demands 8 hours or her muscles "pulsate" I have one word for her...."babies".... enough said)... But she was in a good/comedian mood so all is well.... We drive to Lawrence
We arrive at the college... Shannon is shivering like a leaf as we walk over to the gym....so I warmed her with my body heat (ahhhhh). In the gym we stretch and watch other runner warm-up... we bump into fellow BT'er Byron Rieper (aka brieper) sporting a very fashionable trash bag. We follow Byron down to start and chat with him for a miles....
