Pre-race routine:

Actually ran 3.5 miles before the race. Hung out at the pavilion. Met with our friends from Mankato who were running the race. Eventually Kelly, Emily and Denise also showed up.
Event warmup:

None. Except for 3.5 mile run this morning.
Run
  • 48m 18s
  • 6.2 miles
  • 07m 47s  min/mile
Comments:

Start was slow, but it was a very solid run, solid pace. Had nothing left at the end.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing. Lined up with my wife, Mankato friends and Denise. This is just not one of those races that sets you up for a PR. VERY.SLOW.START no matter where you line up, so you just expect a slow start. In my case a minute slower on the 1st mile (8:41). If I could have run without 'interference', my 1st mile could have been right on target (7:41) and most likely would have PRed. This is just not the race to do it. This was a great exercise in pacing. Perfect practice for Fargo Marathon.
Post race
Warm down:

Saw Emily come into the finish. Found my wife and ran in the last 400 yds with her. She got a PR. 3 minutes faster than last year's run.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Starting crowd.

I was really impressed when you came whizzing by to make up time from the slow start. Your first mile might have been slow, but mile 2 must have been done in about 5 mins Thanks for cheering for me at the end. That's great to hear how well Cindy did.

Nice run.  I love how the splits just keep getting faster and faster.  And that's after a 3.5 mi run in the morning?  Nice job!

Awesome run.  I am always envious of the people who were out running around before the race...and then there is me who uses the first few miles as my warm up

mndiver - 2007-04-29 7:42 AM Another great run Sal.  Good job!

Thanks Bryan.  We feel bad we didn't really have time to sit and talk with Kelly.  We had some friends up from Mankato running it and by the time the majority of the BT group filtered in, it was time to head to the start...
