USA Triathlon Grand Prix Series
83F / 28C
Sunny
Total Time = 2h 41m 31s
Overall Rank = 1170/4000
Age Group = 45-49
Age Group Rank = 25/124
Pre-race routine:

Got up at ~5:00, got the transition stuff together and walked down to transition to set up my stuff and get body marked. Walked back to the hotel, ate breakfast and relaxed until it was time to stretch. Lathered myself up with bodyglide and Pam and SLLLLLLLLLIIID my way back down to the race start with my 8:30 wave.
Event warmup:

Jogged from the hotel to the start area. Did a little swimming, maybe about 2-3 minutes before my start.
Swim
  • 27m 55s
  • 1640 yards
  • 01m 42s / 100 yards
Comments:

This was my best ever swim. Water was SOOOOO calm. It's very rare for me to be able to really stay in a rhythm without getting pushed or punched or thrown by a wave. I only got kicked in the face once!!! Smooth sailing almost all of the way.
Transition 1
  • 01m 34s
Comments:

No problem with any of this. The wetsuit slid easily off with all the Pam and bodyglide I used. Swimsuit stayed on!
What would you do differently?:

Nothing.
Bike
  • 1h 16m 26s
  • 24.85 miles
  • 19.51 mile/hr
Comments:

Wore my heart rate monitor just so I wouldn't accidently overdo it. Haven't been able to bike or run with a knee injury, so I had to stay comfortable. I'm surprised my legs hadn't lost as much as I thought. VERY happy with this bike ride.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing.
Transition 2
  • 01m 51s
Comments:

Forgot to leave socks in the transition area so I had to run without. I usually go sockless only for 5K runs, so this was a little long for me. Only one small blister though. Not bad at all. Had to sit down to put on a knee brace, but was generally very happy with the transition.
What would you do differently?:

Remember my socks.
Run
  • 53m 48s
  • 6.21 miles
  • 08m 40s  min/mile
Comments:

Very happy with the run. I wasn't even sure I'd be able to run the whole thing and was fully prepared to walk if I had to. Had to wear the knee brace to help support. Started feeling chills and a little nausea during the run, so I hit the med tent for some cold towels and rehydration (and shade) after the race.
What would you do differently?:

I guess drink more. I bring my own accelerade bottle on the run plus I use the water at the water stops, but I guess that just wasn't enough today.
Post race
Warm down:

Did a lot of walking around looking for Bob, looking for the kids, looking for food and beer!

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Knee injury kept me from training.

Event comments:

Great expo, great food tent and music. Plenty of BTers to visit with before, during and after the race.

I was SOOOO happy with this overall race. I was only there to have fun and do what I could do since I haven't had adequate training. I think I do better when all the pressure is off me like that.

Wow, we had almost identical races. And all it took was for you to have a knee injury.

Congrats on an great race!

You are one fast women and with an injury and what you say not enough training, you'd be wicked fast coming fully prepared and uninjured.

Seems no pressure agrees with you...

Impressive run when it was hot and later in the day...you must of passed me somewhere along the way...probably early part of the run.
