Total Time = 51m 25s
Overall Rank = 141/360
Age Group = 35-39
Age Group Rank = 21/40
Pre-race routine:

2 naps yesterday caused me to stay up late last night. Didn't get to bed until 1am. 6am wake up came early. Showered then normal morning craziness at our house. 1/2 small bagel and water.
Event warmup:

Light stretching and a little running. I did not feel fresh like Summer's Eve. No doubt the swim and bike I did yesterday did not help.
Run
  • 51m 25s
  • 6.21 miles
  • 08m 17s  min/mile
Comments:

Wanted to run negative splits but that didn't happen. What the heck is up with mile 4? Must have started day dreaming or something.

I wanted to run 48 or better so I'm a little dissapointed with my time. Some days you are the bug and some days you are with windsheild. 48 or better today was not meant to be.
What would you do differently?:

D'uh - I would run 48 or better! What kind of a question is this?

Seriously, if I took this race serious, I would seriously think about some serious rest the day before. Seriously!
Post race
Warm down:

Water. Found Capt No Fun and College Funds #1 and #2. We left before the awards ceremony. I didn't see an award for slow white boy so I think I'm good.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Need more base training. I've limited my running to 20 miles per week so that I don't burn myself out before I have to start uping the distance for marathon training (training starts July 1). I need to find a late season 10k after the marathon to see some real progress.

Event comments:

Great course and great support. Price is great but who doesn't use timing chips now days? That would probably raise the price so I guess I'm ok with that. Plenty of parking. Didn't see any bathrooms but the movie theater was open and I saw people going in a out.

Seriously speaking, that was a serious good RR!

Nice job this weekend, Jonathan!  So what if you left 48 somewhere in the lake or on the bike, you've done some great training!

Enjoy what's left of the long weekend!

TWO naps in one day? You must be seriously crazy or seriously lucky or both. Good job on the 10K anyway.

nice race! You will get that 48:00 10k soon enough. A least you know where you need to be to get that 48, and you know to taper. Congrats on a tough race. (51 is still a good 10k btw)

Nice race.. when they don't go exactly as planned, consider it a training race. Seriously, you will get you sub 50 10k soon. That analogy about the bug and windshield was spot on.. Sounds like a good race.
I think every race should be using timing chips.. and I would be willing to pay the extra 5 dollars or so it might cost (per person).

Nice run Jonathan! Thinking about progression you did a great job on improving your run results with no real taper for it.

Good race Jonathan.  Another great step on your road to a marathon.  I would highly recommend doing a 10K after a marathon.  I think you'll see your 10K time improve DRAMATICALLY.

Honestly, I don't know how you guys train in the 'south.'  I got out for a 50 min run yesterday in Covington, and STRUGGLED to keep my HR below 160.  I'm normally in the 145 range for my Z2 runs.

Again, good race.  Experience before the big mary...

Official race results up:

51:25 total time; average 8m 17s per mile

Top 39% overall and top 53% in age group.

Guess I can't complain too much.  In my last 10k which was 3 months ago my finish was 74% overall and 85% age group.  I finished that one in 56:51 at a pace of 9m 09s per mile.

Improvement is a good thing.
