Subject: RE: Memorial Day 2007 - Always RememberMy mother was born in Poland in a little town, few miles from the German border, called Wielun. It was there, where the first bombs of WWII were dropped. At about 5:00am within few hours the entire town was in ruins...She was 10 then.
For the next 5 years, her family and the rest of Polish people had to live under the occupation of Nazis with constant fear of deportation to concentration camps, slave labor in Germany (my aunts were sent there ) and simply death on the streets at the whim of the occupiers. Millions shared that fate.
I myself grew up in a city that was completely destroyed and it took years to rebuild it.
We played on those ruins and the images are still imprinted in my mind.
History showed that it was due to the American involvement, that the plan to enslave the world was stopped. Who knows how it would look like if it wasn't for the ones that sacrificed their lifes to fight in WWII...
Every time I go to visit Poland I stop at the military cemetary there.
From the bottom of my heart - I salute you all! |
