Sunny
Total Time = 1h 35m 11s
Overall Rank = 281/510
Age Group = 35-39
Age Group Rank = 36/62
Pre-race routine:

Got to the site early. After I had everything set-up I walked around for awhile and met some people I knew. Sprayed down with sunscreen with deet to prevent the lake itch thing they were talking about.
Event warmup:

Locked out of transition 65 minutes before I could start. Didn't want to be in water too much because of the reported nasty bugs. Did a few 100 yeards of swimming, thats about it.
Swim
  • 22m 13s
  • 880 yards
  • 02m 31s / 100 yards
Comments:

This swim was not even close to .5 miles. Looking at some of the elites times I would guess it was at least .75 miles. Nice swim though, just got a little demoralized when I saw my swim at the turn-around point. Negative thinking started to pop into head and I lost a little momentum. Hurt pretty bad pulling for most of the swim on my right side. Lingering bike crash injury. Scabs on elbows and knees pulled like crazy.
What would you do differently?:

Don't look at watch. Focus on task at hand.
Transition 1
  • 02m 21s
Comments:

Really rehearsed spot in T1. Went well
What would you do differently?:

Just work on speed
Bike
  • 41m 30s
  • 13.4 miles
  • 19.37 mile/hr
Comments:

I just could not get going on the first half of bike. Very slow swim time got my head out of race. By 2nd half I started pushing and felt much better. Finished with way too much energy.
What would you do differently?:

Push harder, quit getting worked up about things out of control
Transition 2
  • 01m 43s
Comments:

Good transition. I've made significant improvements from last year in transition.
Run
  • 27m 25s
  • 3.1 miles
  • 08m 50s  min/mile
Comments:

The day had started to heat up pretty well by now. Course was pretty well shaded. My leg has been "locking up" all week for some reason and I really felt it in the run. Basically felt like my entire quad was going to cramp up from about mile 1 on. Once again, had way too much energy left over in the end.
What would you do differently?:

Push harder.
Post race
Warm down:

Walked around and got some food. Met up with Birkierunner and Leapdog. Very nice to talk to both of them.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

I was kind of being a baby.

Event comments:

I probably would not do this race again. Volunteers were great and post race activities were great.

Most people that took a couple recent crashes wouldn't even have done the race. Way to gut it out. I hope there' nothing seriously wrong with your knee. Nice scars.

It's funny how this is a mental game. I treat each facet like 5 hole round of golf. If I have one bad hole, I just move on to the next and forget the last as there's not much I can do about it.

Nice meeting you today.

Great job...it sounds like the swim was not all that fun...I find myself getting upset at myself when I check the time for a leg and it is slower than what I wanted as well...if you find a cure, please let me know!

Thanks for the replies.  I worked my aggressions out on my run this morning.  Going to work on the mental aspect of training for my next few races.

Boy - you're a more advanced complainer than me even!     Next time leave the watch at home maybe.  You did great considering your recent injuries.

Nice race, whiner.

For what it's worth, I would have probably drowned on a 3/4 mile swim, so I'm glad I sat this one out.

Good luck this weekend if I somehow can't pick you out of the 4000 person throng at the crack of dawn!
