Total Time = 2h 03m 54s
Overall Rank = 143/18/Female
Age Group = 40-44
Age Group Rank = 24/35
Pre-race routine:

Up like a normal weekday at 440. But forced myself to eat - pbutter on english muffin with cinnamon sugar. Mmm! But stomach not used to eating so early. Coffee, soda. Then drove over and walked about a mile to get into park. Nearly forgot to get chip! Then waited in porto potty line and drank Gatorade.
Event warmup:

Ran to get chip! ;) Ate a banana (shouldn't have...kept having heart burn and banana indigestion burps the whole race) :( Next time, no eating within an hour of starting race.
Swim
  • 09m 7s
  • 440 yards
  • 02m 04s / 100 yards
Comments:

Lots of confusion around the swim with all the waves in the water at once. I had a boatload of crudola in my top and pants from the lake when I got home - eeew! ;)
What would you do differently?:

Pushed harder; swam more.
Transition 1
  • 03m 3s
Comments:

I can't jump and go on my bike. I was dang winded after running up hill to t1 too. But I futzed around too long with sox and toweling off. The tongue of my bike shoe got folded over and I futzed with that too.
What would you do differently?:

just jam the sox on and futz with stuff later.
Bike
  • 1h 17m 39s
  • 22 miles
  • 17.00 mile/hr
Comments:

Quads were burning toward end. I knew I had the run ahead and wanted to make sure I had juice left. I felt like everyone was passing me :( Nose was running lots...didn't want to shoot any snot rockets (still a novice) because there were always folks behind me. Pace was about same as my pre race ride of the route so realized in a race I should have pushed harder. There was a little bird in the middle of the road near the end... lots of racers then. Felt bad for the critter. Wonder if he got off the road before he got squished by tires.
What would you do differently?:

Push harder. Practice my snot rocket aim ;) LOL!
Transition 2
  • 01m 35s
Comments:

Felt wobbly at first off bike. But once to my rack area, felt better. Swig of H20, switch shoes out, hat, race belt and good to go.
What would you do differently?:

Run...run...run... strong!
Run
  • 32m 27s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 10m 26s  min/mile
Comments:

Struggled with 'mountain' (I say mountain because there really are no mountains in WI, but this baby is a BIG HILL..so for these parts, it's a mountain). I walked two times. There were spectacular views of lake from trails! Wow! Not used to rocky trails and at one point, sort of wobbled my ankle and nearly fell..it hurt though. I let it rip going into the chute! What a rush! LOVE THIS SPORT! WOOOHOOO!!!
What would you do differently?:

Overall, not happy with run time... but will work on hills and trails.
Post race
Warm down:

Walked around a bit, water water water! Couldn't fathom stuffing my face with all that food others were gorging on ...I need to wait a bit before I can eat. Incredibly thirsty remainder of day. And tired... felt like muscles I haven't used were beaten up. Watched some others finish then headed home and went to brunch with the family.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Stomach yuckies from eating too close to start. Having to pee to towards end.

Event comments:

Absolutely beautiful day! Sunny and not a cloud in the sky! Next year, I'll have practiced hills for this race.

Course: Waded to start line (actually just waited in water for an eternity - got chilly!) then walked a bit, then swam (and all my class training seemed to slip out the window!) At one point, I was walking but using my arms like freestyle mostly for the crowd's benefit. Lots of folks walked most of the course. Swimming was faster than walking for me. I knew I was pokey at the end sort of delayed in hustling ashore.

Awesome race! I would say you were well prepared. Way to conquer the hill. Have you found the mystery Donkey yet? It wasn't me. Bummed that we didn't get a chance to meet up. Things get a little frantic pre-race.

Congrats, nice race.

I think you can always find areas to work on after any race.  Transition is always one thing to look at, since it really doesn't cost you anything to speed up there.  Swim, Bike and Run all take extra effort to get faster at, but cut 30-60 seconds out of transition it is just less time.

Yeah, that's part of my problem. If I didn't get so distracted with gorgeous views, fields of mooing cows (gotta moo back right?), talking to volunteers, jokin' around with peeps about various things... I'd probably shave off a minute or save some breath for reallly pushing it. But hey, BOP's have to have some fun right

Fantastic!  I'm glad someone else is looking around when they do these things....isn't it great to wave at the kids, take in the views...oh and I saw that birdie too...I don't think it was alive, but I could be wrong.  Enjoy the moments....that is why we do these right?  Congrats!
