Firm Racing
74F / 23C
Sunny
Total Time = 1h 25m 28s
Overall Rank = 230/373
Age Group = 45-49
Age Group Rank = 25/27
Pre-race routine:

usual tried and true oatmeal and juice b-fast enroute to race site. Left in plenty of time so as not to stress that. Leisure 1:45 min drive to race site with good tunes.

Get registered and set up. Meet up with isis and new bt guy, chris before the race.
Event warmup:

no real warm up. really do need to get into a habit of warming up before a sprint.
Swim
  • 14m 55s
  • 880 yards
  • 01m 42s / 100 yards
Comments:

satisfied with the swim. First group swim of the year for me so I started toward the back of the pack. Sited and navigated correctly, held a straight line. Had a couple problems with leaky goggles so had to stop and clear.

Stepped out of the water at 14:29. Happy with that! Considering that I did stop and clear the goggles. usually I see something near 20 minutes. This NO SWIM training must be working!! :)

What would you do differently?:

I could have pushed a bit harder i suppose. Wasnt really tuckered upon hitting the beach. Good pacing effort mostly.
Transition 1
  • 04m
Comments:

transition sucked big time!! The distance from the water to the bike zone is nearly a quarter mile. That isnt too bad, but it is a distance. Mostly my own transition sucked. I fumbled the wetsuit, futzed around getting shoes on, etc. oh well, patriot 1/2 wont need a swift t-1 time!
Bike
  • 40m
  • 12 miles
  • 18.00 mile/hr
Comments:

Bike segment went well. Kept a good pace and cadence. Couple issues with switching to large chainring from small. (I rode my olde school tri bike. Passed lots of people!! especially fun to pass those $6K tri bikers!!)

Hills were tough but good.
Transition 2
  • 02m
Comments:

not really happy with t-2. slow to rack, slow to change shoes. didnt do any of the fast transition stuff I could have done. oh well.
Run
  • 24m 37s
  • 3 miles
  • 08m 13s  min/mile
Comments:

Hamstrings were tight right from the start. Had to stop and stretch just out of transition. While I was at it, I decided to use the portapotty while it was right there! Once I got the run moving, I felt good and fairly comfy and strong. Saw the goddess on her way back in, that was cool. She looked cooking!!!

Overall, happy with the run pace. If not for the initial stop, stretch and pee, I did sub-8 min/miles. satisfied with that.
Post race
Warm down:

Grabbed some ice cream and snacks and headed into the shade. Met up with isis and chris and chatted lots about the race and stuff.
Hung around for isis54's podium spot!!!! YAHOO!!!!! Happy for her to rack up another medal!!! What a triathlete!

What limited your ability to perform faster:

transition times and lack of brick workouts. OVerall, 3 min faster than last year, yet 3 min slower than 2 years ago. I'm good with that. Each year brings it;s own peaks and valleys.

Event comments:

Firm racing did a bit better this year than last year. Bike zone was on the grassy field instead of the gravely parking lot. Lots of post race refreshments and goodies!!! Safety was good. I do wish they would mark the miles on the run.

Nice race, Glen.  Did you have fun with Devil Hill Jr.?

You had Hamstring issue and clock some 8:13/mile.  You're like Jorge.

And you know what?  I don't like those who don't train (re: your swim) and get so fast.  Both you and Max.  I don't like you guys. :p

"One BIG F-ing HILL!!!!!!!"

LOL.  Oh how the tune has changed.  "Uhh... it's flat.  Yeah, really easy ride... nothing to worry about," as you shoot a quick, knowing glance as isis54.  Sure, sure.

Great race!  Patriot will be even better.

Nice race Glen~

It was a little sad for me not to do this after doing it the last 2 years.

As usual you enjoyed yourself and had a great race. I'm impressed with lack of swimming training and having a fast time...maybe that would work for me.

Like your run even with hamstring issue.

Congrats and see you at Patriot~

See how well you do after coming down from visiting close to Canada? I think you might have to do this more often....heck, even CROSS the border to visit and you could be faster

Congrats to my favourite DOM!!
