Total Time = 1h 32m 16s
Overall Rank = 129/232
Age Group = 25-29
Age Group Rank = 11/30
Pre-race routine:

Drove an hour and a half from Littleton to get to transition at 7:30. Set up my transition area - nabbed an end spot next to the grass which afforded me lots of extra space. Met and hung out with fellow BTers prerace.
Event warmup:

None - I'm kind of a slacker about warming up. Especially when the water's cold!!
Swim
  • 17m 50s
  • 750 meters
  • 02m 23s / 100 meters
Comments:

I felt like my swim (usually my best event) was awful. First 50 m was shallow, and although a lot of people waded through, I swam. It was pretty annoying because I kept running into people who were walking! After that, couldn't see the buoy at all for the first portion, so just drafted off some people. Swam and navigated well between the 1st and 2nd bouys. After the 2nd buoy, swimming back to shore seemed like it took FOREVER. Navigation was a bit off at one point, but generally okay. Just felt slow.
What would you do differently?:

Still need to work more on navigation - have a tendency to swim to the right when I'm tired.
Transition 1
  • 02m 49s
Comments:

There was a really long run up the sandy beach after the swim, which really winded me. Moved pretty slow in transition - Nate watched me and agreed that I could've moved faster. No problems, just slow in general.
What would you do differently?:

Need to learn to get on bike while moving - my bike start was agonizingly slow.
Bike
  • 43m 30s
  • 12.4 miles
  • 17.10 mile/hr
Comments:

I've worked a lot more on the bike since the Danskin in July, and felt much better prepared here to push it on the bike. My gps watch gave me a time of about 42 min which is what I was aiming for. They had cones set up for the right hand turns which made me slow down a lot on some of them, but overall I felt okay. My feet were really cold from the swim, and felt numb for most of the ride, but I don't think it affected my performance.
What would you do differently?:

Want to continue to train more on the bike - it made me feel a lot more prepared at this tri. Get clipless pedals and shoes so my feet don't get numb!
Transition 2
  • 01m 24s
Comments:

The guy behind me coming into transition fell - think he must not have clipped out of his pedals in time!! I felt okay on this one, but felt like a slacker for walking through the transition area instead of jogging.
What would you do differently?:

Need to learn how to dismount my bike quicker. Move faster in general.
Run
  • 26m 43s
  • 2.95 miles
  • 09m 04s  min/mile
Comments:

My main goal here was to run the whole run since I walked some at the Danskin. My feet were completely numb for the first mile and a half which was weird - don't know if it's because they were cold from the swim, or because my shoes aren't good. Anyhow, ran through it and felt okay for the 2nd half. Didn't walk at all. According to my watch, splits were 9:09, 9:15, 9:20 for the 3 miles.
What would you do differently?:

Have feeling in my feet?
Post race
Warm down:

Stretched a bit, hung out with all the BTers for a while :) Grabbed lunch and drove an hour and half home.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Transitions were slowest. Otherwise, I actually felt pretty good about my effort on this one.

Event comments:

This race was fun, and generally well organized. Gotta love free beer after the race! The swim start was a bit of a mess (course and lack of bullhorn) and I think the chip timing didn't work as planned (I understand they did the splits manually?).

Great job!  Those are excellent run splits!  We'll all have to get together at Chatfield for some brick training.  If you, Mary and Ovetta help me out on my swimming, I'll help you all out on the bike!

Hey, it was great meeting you! Sounds like you had a great race!

You know, it was kinda funny. You and Ovetta swam at the beginning and I HAD to walk. I think it's because I went to the outside. I tried swimming several times and my arms kept smacking the bottom! I heard people talking about the possibility of getting dinged for walking out too far, but I never heard how far! Hope they didn't get me!!!

Great job and great meeting you.

Do you think we will get official split times or is that hopeless?

See you next year.

Holy cow!  You almost beat me!  No wonder I didn't see you on the run.  I'm definitely going to have to be watching my back in the future!

Finally got splits - woohoo! Now, if only I could get my bike and run rank to be somewhere even remotely close to my swim rank...
