DAMN! DAMN! DAMN!

Ok, someone write in and tell them Aaron's story! That way he wins the lottery this year! I know he wants to go by winning... but can't we work behind his back?

He had already tried the lottery, he'd have to wait until next year's lottery to go to '08.

He doesn't need the lottery, he'll get there much sooner than later. Race selection is important and as all the races attract a similar number of participants, the AG spreads are similar, so you need to get in a race with 80 slots to increase the number per AG. You used to be able to make the argument that some races were more competetive than others, but at this point, due to IRONMAN popularity, they are all going to bne competetive in each AG.

They had projected 2 slots, but only 20 people actually started the race in his AG, so they reduced it to one slot.

True.

But you know, someone on this board was saying that some people get picked for the lottery because of the fact that they are a human interest story. One example was Sarah R. They mentioned that the lottery is not all that random as some would like to believe, and sometimes people have a good story get picked.

He has an amazing story of weight loss and changing his life and now his fight to get to Kona.

Sorry, I know I'm just pulling stuff out of a hat... I so wanted to see that he had made it.

He's a competitor, not a special interest story. For someone like him, the only was he go's is by sheer will and effort and punching his own ticket with a 10 hour Ironman. He's close and he's going to get nothing but better. I think he knew he was a bit of a long shot this year, but next year, watch for him.

I know. Like I said... I was just pullling anything out of my hat so to speak.

Next year he'll get it. I KNOW HE WILL!

Thanks for watching guys! It was so fun to get on the threads today and read the race as it went along! I can't speak for everyone, but I was living for the timing mats b/c I knew that people were watching - they really helped on the long hot run!!! Got to see Aaron on stage accept his plaque - very cool!!

I'm kinda with you KSH.  Aaron's flag runs are also very inspiring.  NEXT year we can ghost-write all of this for his application.

AND he'll qualify. You know, belt + suspenders.

Rotten about there being only 1 slot.  The first two guys did amazing though, have to admit.

Of course, that's the point, Kona qualifying can and should be amazing. Nothing can take a great day away from you, you earn it and Aaron will earn it. He doesn't need the lottery, honor his effort and look forward to next year. It's not rotten that they only had one slot, it's the way it is and he'll just need to be faster next time. And he will.

Congrats to all the IRONMANs.   I'm so suprised the IM corporation does two events on the same day.  Especially on the same continent.

Hey everyone, thanks for watching and all the good karma passed along! It was a great race, and I would really recommend it to anyone thinking of doing an IM next year. The bike course absolutely rocked, and they made a good choice by starting the swim in TT mode. The run was wicked hot, and the humidity just cooked me, but overall very, very happy with the day.
Congrats to everyone who started today!!!!!

I've got a question for all the IM Louisville athletes and spectators:

There was quite a bit of discussion in this thread about the 2 announcers that were used at IM Louisville.  Those of us watching the video feed were watching these 2 switch in and out throughout the day.  One of these guys seems like a triathlon encyclopedia, whereas the other we had a tough time understanding sometimes.  "YOU ARE AN IRONMAN" was spoken pretty religiously by Announcer #1 for every athlete.  This other hard to understand guy was a little less reliable.

Was this 2nd guy as tough to understand in person as he was on the live feed?  Any comments good or bad?

When I crossed, I heard my name called out loud and clear. I have no idea who did it. I was in a pretty happy place at that point.
