Jack and Adam's Bicycles
Sunny
Total Time = 1h 12m 24s
Overall Rank = 38/755
Age Group = 35-39
Age Group Rank = 7/85
Pre-race routine:

normal bagel, honey, peanut butter and cofee. Picked up my buddy Todde (jwithyco) and headed to race.
Event warmup:

10 minute run to warmup the legs and 10 minute swim just before race start.
Swim
  • 08m 40s
  • 500 meters
  • 01m 44s / 100 meters
Comments:

first 200m or so felt great. When I looked around I was in front pack but my right goggle filled up with water and my left one began to fog, I had to stop a few times to sight better due to this, so lost a little time. Feel I could hit 1:35 pacing
What would you do differently?:

make sure goggles are tight, or try different brand
Transition 1
  • 01m 30s
Comments:

Since my bike was only about 20 m from start line, i went with shoes off. Worked great. I kind of didn't rush, could of shaved off 15-20 seconds.
Bike
  • 39m 23s
  • 14.8 miles
  • 22.55 mile/hr
Comments:

I felt really good on the bike today. The rookie tri uses basically the same course and I struggled on the backside then. Not this time, the hills never really bothered my and felt strong the whole ride. I definately left some in the tank. I could have gone a little faster i think. REALLY happy with my bike time.
What would you do differently?:

nothing, felt good
Transition 2
  • 01m 25s
Comments:

I went right past my bike rack, since i was so close to bike exit/entrance. Then I couldn't get my # belt on, probably lost around 30 seconds here.
What would you do differently?:

I always have difficulty with my # belt. I just need to remember to put it on with attachment in front vs trying to attach with my arms behind my back
Run
  • 21m 24s
  • 3 miles
  • 07m 08s  min/mile
Comments:

First mile or so I didn't have my stride. Once i found it i had a really nice pace. I was shooting for a 6:45 avg on the run, fell a little short, feel the first 1 mile or so hurt this. I never felt like i was tired though, just my legs took 5 minutes or so to get under me.
What would you do differently?:

On a side note right before the turn around my # belt came undone, I had to slow down and work it back into the buckle system. Never stopped but had to slow my pace.
Post race
Warm down:

Walked around a little and just hung out. Saw Dennis (dgunthert) and Jim (jkron). Also hung out with Todde (jwithyco) who did race since one of his buddies broke his collar bone just the weekend before the race

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Overall, happy with race. bike was awesome for me. I could have pushed bike a little harder and pushed run a little harder. In the long run 1:12 is awesome for my. My goal was 1:15 from my coach (he won the race by the way). I've yet had a open water swim match my pool swim, practice.

Event comments:

Jack and Adams puts on an awesome race. Burgers, prices, beer, icecream, you name it, they have it. This is a definate must for anyone to try out. Plus it seems to get alot of the local Pro's out.

Awesome race!!! You really smoked the bike course. Nice job out there!

I am in Brandon's Iron Chicks swim group on Wednesdays. It was really, really cool to see him and his wife on the podium!

Great race!!!! Texas ski ranch is a great place for tris. And like you said J&A's hosts a really great race. It is nice to see the local pros out there and be able to mix it up with them. Congrats on a great race.

Solid race in all 3 elements. Great placement in a super-competitive AG.

You know you have a good coach when he can win the race. Nothing like being able to "walk the talk".

Great day for racing and a fun day, it was nice to finally meet up.

See you at a race in the future...

Only 6 minutes behind Desiree Ficker, I'd say that's pretty good!   I know you can swim faster than that.
