Subject: RE: LaSalle Bank Chicago MarathonI didn't know you were running yourself... I thought it was just your friend you were going to watch! I'm not much of a "watcher," and marathons (and triathlons) really suck as spectator sports IMHO. Sure wouldn't travel that far just to watch, although Chicago would be more interesting than most! Will you be back next year? Probably not for the marathon. Loved the city, loved the event, but I doubt I'll ever run the same marathon twice. My LONG range goal is to run a marathon in every state, since I can only do three or four a year I hate to "waste" one on a repeat. Chicago was my tenth marathon in nine states (two in Louisiana). Besides, there was no lipstick in the goody bag. What did you think if our fair city? Loved Chicago, was particularly impressed by how clean it was. My "big city" experience revolves around New Orleans and Houston, which each have their own unique charm but leave you feeling like you need a shower afterwards. Chicago was much cleaner, a good mix of the old and new. The old wasn't decrepit, but historic and aesthetically pleasing. Great architecture, like the whole city was a museum showcasing the last 100+ years of building design. City appears to be in constant renewal, i.e., Millenium Park and the whole Riverwalk. We relied on public transportation the whole time and found it to be clean, efficient, safe, and convenient. Restaurants were nice (pizza at at Gino's and Uno's), shopping fantastic, museums spectacular, yada, yada. Pictures look better on mf's website, but when I post them here they are a lot bigger, so that you can see the pixels.

Walked about a mile from the hotel (Hyatt) to the start through downtown Chicago and Millenium Park with our Team In Training Louisiana group, checked gear, then we split according to expected paces. Hit the portapotti, then got back in line. By that time, it was a half hour wait. Ate another Cliff Bar in line, by the time I got out they were playing the National Anthem. Went to find our 4:15 pace group, got in line then the gun went off.
Warm-up? It's a frigging marathon! Nine-minute walk to the start, then just start running.
