Total Time = 00m
Overall Rank = 403/521
Age Group = 30 -34 male
Age Group Rank = 26/31
Pre-race routine:

I dropped off my bike on saturday. They did not have me down for the race so I had to repay for the race and now I have to track down proof I already paid. bad news is that I did not get the jersay which is the main reason to do that race other that its really good.

I talked to a few bters. talked to a few people from naperville lifetime fitness running club. Mostly talked to my friend Juli A. Had a bagel.

Event warmup:

wetsuit was getting me a little warm does that count as a warm up?
Swim
  • 18m 20s
  • 750 meters
  • 02m 26s / 100 meters
Comments:

I swam out hard. I am used to swimming farther distances so I think I really pushed hard on the swim. I got caught up by a guy who would do the front crawl then switch to back stroke. I also got stuck behind a few guys who switched to the breast stroke.
On the way out I was pulling to the left and on the way in I was pulling to the right
What would you do differently?:

Well I need to bileteral breathe. I think I need to learn to keep my stroke straigher. I also need to site more.
Transition 1
  • 04m 54s
Comments:

I forgot my hydration at home. So when I got out of the swim I had to run to the far table to get something to drink. My bike got stuck and it was really hard to get it out. That really slowed me down. I put my socks on and my shoulder muscle really started to hurt. I moved my soulder and it just hurt.
What would you do differently?:

I think I needed to find a better way to rack my bike. I also need to have my water bottle.
Bike
  • 43m 23s
  • 12.43 miles
  • 17.19 mile/hr
Comments:

I did not drink at all on the bike. I have issues using a water bottle and I figured I be better off drinking before and after the bike than during. It was a cold day and I think that the day was perfect for that stragegy. I saw a girl I reconized as I came in but I did not know who she was. Oh well no time to stop and go hey who are you again.
What would you do differently?:

I wish I had my bike computer. it would have been helpful to know exactly how fast I was going and what my HR was. This way I could have maybe pushed the bike a little faster. Also I thought the last turn was closer than it was and I lost time there.
Transition 2
  • 01m 45s
Comments:

Finally I am MOP at something. I was in the top 50% in transition and first time I had a sub 3 minute transition let alone sub 2. I finished up water and had some on my way out.
What would you do differently?:

a faster way to rerack the bike would been nice. thinking I was moving fast and had to double check everything took time also.
Run
  • 34m 32s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 11m 06s  min/mile
Comments:

yeah I was the slowest in my group at this point. I ran pretty hard and I thought I was going so slow. turns out it was my fastest run on a sprint tri ever. Really a good end to the day
What would you do differently?:

Nothing really. I wish I had my hrm and running watching it would helped but I bet kept my run time slower.
Post race
Warm down:

ate a bagel and talked to friends.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Well lack of information really hurt. I did not know if I was going fast or slow. I felt I could have pushed myself harder at times becuase I felt like I was slacking off. I still had my fastest day ever.

2 hour of sleep was not enough but I really did not feel exhausted at the start.

I also been doing alot of longer workouts which has made me faster but focusing more on faster runs and rides would be useful.

Yep I can still tell the effects of my weight on the course.

Event comments:

They started 30 mins late but they was very useful because everyone was running late and it really was a mad house early on. I think they did a good job and the race went on. I am very happy that it did. The weather held out long enough for the race to end. Only real worry was I had was getting my car out of the muddy grass parking lot at the end of the race.

Interesting look at what 1 year can do.

2006
swim 33:51 44/47 93.6 563/572 98.4
t1 7:57 45/47 95.7 566/572 98.95
bike 50:52 46/47 97.8 537/572 93.88
t2 3:27 46/47 97.8 540/572 94.40
run 38:48 46/47 97.8 531/572 92.83

in 2006 my best event by overall was the run and best in a/g was the swim. I was in the bottom 10% of everything.

2007
swim time 18:20 24/31 77.14 297/521 57.00
t1 4:54 28/31 90.32 445/521 85.41
bike 50:52 27/31 87.096 385/521 73.90
t2 1:45 14/31 45.16 247/521 47.40
run 34:32 30/31 96.77 453/521 86.95

I was not in the bottom 10% in anything this year. my best event overall was t2 and in sports it was swim which I was in the MOP.
In my a/g my best was t2 being in the top 50% and best event was the swim being just a little shy of top top 75%.

Overall
2006
47/47 100 558/572 97.55
2007
26/31 83.87 403/521 77.35

I went from bottom 3 percent overal to bottom 23 percent. I am almost to the back of the middle of pack.

That might have been me switching between crawl and backstroke. Were you heat 12 in the black caps? I realized about 30 feet into the swim that I, for some reason, I can't breath out under water in a lake. I'd crawl, speed up, than flip over to catch my breath only to see a pack of guys gaining on me.

Nice race and great improvements!

hahqah yeah. I think maybe. I was in heat 12 also. if you were more to the left hand side. I kept drifting that way myself. nothing like coming to someone can go oh crap I can not draft off them and go around.

Hey you did better than my friend she would have had to do that also but got scared and backed out of the swim part. (switched to dual)

Great race in unusual conditions - I was there too and tried to find BT'rs, but I guess everyone went home early.

Well done!  Looks like a lot of us had a great day considering the conditions.  I'm wondering if that actually helped.  People didn't have time to get nervous about the actual race because they were worrying about the weather.

Anyway, nice to meet you and again, WELL DONE!

Todd! You did awesome!

I didn't see you there... no... Chris told me he chatted with you after (or before?) the race...

A great, solid, really nice effort out there... Crappy conditions, but alot of people had really good races!

Congratulations! Huge improvements over last year!
