Sunny
Total Time = 1h 37m 31s
Overall Rank = 188/399
Age Group = Novice Men
Age Group Rank = 3/23
Pre-race routine:

Bitch about having to get up. Cofffee, Clif Bar and yogurt. Drive to LKN and get transition setup. Walk around and talk to folks.
Event warmup:

Jumped in the water and swam a few yards.
Swim
  • 16m 46s
  • 820 yards
  • 02m 02s / 100 yards
Comments:

Beat the 17mins I was hoping to do. Tried to push harder than I usually do and concentrated on sighting a bit better. Still drift to the left. Was nice to catch up and pass some of the wave that left in front of me.
What would you do differently?:

Not be so polite in the water
Transition 1
  • 01m 52s
Comments:

Decent transition. Need to start training without socks.
What would you do differently?:

Dump the socks
Bike
  • 50m 41s
  • 16.8 miles
  • 19.89 mile/hr
Comments:

Really pleased with my bike. Did the course last weekend at race pace and came in over 53mins. Had lots of fun blowing past the folks from earlier waves. Great for my ego. Pushed hard and hit the vomit zone almost immediately. Probably pushed to hard.Traffic was out and I almost got caught behind cars a couple times. Was hoping to do better on the hills.
What would you do differently?:

Train more
Transition 2
  • 01m 10s
Comments:

Decent transition. I was really feeling nauseas at this point and had to force myself to keep going.
What would you do differently?:

nothing
Run
  • 27m 3s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 08m 42s  min/mile
Comments:

Blew up on the run and knew it coming out of T2. Legs were dead and I cramped up almost immediately. Really wanted to hurl. Pushed too hard on the bike and drank too much. Lack of training for 3 weeks prior really showed. Luckily Melissa and Dave were on the course screaming at me to keep pushing. Worst run segment I've done this season.
What would you do differently?:

Drink less on the bike and train more.
Post race
Warm down:

Tried not to throw up. Cooled down with wet towels and lots of water. Got stretched out with one of the vendors. Hung out and talked to friends and other athletes.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Lack of motivation to train

Event comments:

Fun race, lots of spectators and volunteers. Food line was way too long so I skipped it.

Wow...a "bad" race and you still placed in your age group. I'll never see you now at tri's until after the race...IF you stick around long enough.

Great job and congrats.

A 27 min 5k is blowing up?  Sheesh.  Personally, I think the fact that you DIDN'T throw up just means you could have gone faster.

Wait, are you racing M30-34 next year?  If so, that feeling in your stomach means you should slow down.  Maybe walk, or even sit down.

Good job out there.  Hope you had fun!

Great job!  Congrats on placing in your AG.  Your swim time was awesome.  You have come a long way in one season, you must be very happy.

Great race Keith! You also had a great big smile coming over the hill when you got to 115. I only dream of the day when I can run a 27 min 5k. Congrats on the hardware, you definitely deserve it. You have come a long way in just one season.
