Subject: Aero Wheel Justification - When to Buy.
Does a 22mph avg in races justify a new set of aero wheels? I'm averaging anywhere between 20.5 and 22mph in my sprint races riding on a set of (HEAVY) Mavic Aksium clinchers. Also currently weighing in at 220 lbs (gotta go faster if I get down to 190lbs - right?).

The guys placing first in my races are usually around 24 to 24.5 mph avg. I keep telling myself that once I'm at 23 or 23.5 mph i'll spend the money on aeros hopefully it would bump me up to a consistent 23.5 or 24mph.

What's everyones' thoughts?

When you have the money to spend on them.

def. do not agree. I'm sure if I was pulling even slower than a 20 mph avg I wouldn't even consider buying an aero wheelset.

Fine.  But if that 19mph rider has the money and wants the wheels, they'll be faster with them.

Buy them if you can afford them without taking away from food or family.  Other than that, someone has to buy them or people would be out of a job.

When the marginal benefit (real and perceived) equals or exceeds the cost.
