Extreme Veteran  372   Williamsburg, Virginia |  Subject: Answer to the little yellow thing-Areo bottleI have read a lot about what to do if you lose the yellow thing from the areo-bottle well in the October issue of Triathlete magaizine, there is a Profile design ad (pg 31) It show the bottle with no yellow thingy and also the rubber bands to hold it in place are replaced with electric tape. If you go ride without it you'll notice you get splashed quite a bit. I almost lost mine in the last race when I hit a bump and found it easy to hold it down with part of the rubber band. Others suggest replacing it with a shower pouf, which is the same material, but bigger and rounder so it won't bounce out. It baffles me why they would make the thing almost exactly the same diameter as the bottle opening with nothing to hold it in. It's as if they wanted it to get lost so that you'd have to buy multiple replacements. Wait a minute...you don't suppose? |

Expert 755 SF-Bay Area | Subject: RE: Answer to the little yellow thing-Areo bottle If you unravel the yellow-mesh splash-guard, and then re-fold it in a tighter pattern, then rotate it 90-degrees and insert it (much simpler than it sounds), it won't bounce out. At least mine hasn't after lots of training rides over some rough terrain, and my last HIM which featured more than its fare share of train tracks. |

Instead of poking out the top vertically, stuff it in there horizontally and splashing problems go away and it will not pop out. Simple effective free!!! |

Now that I've shifted my training to long distance/HIM training I just use a camelback. Much better solution... |

I find it funny that there ad does not have it in. If you get a cahnce look at the ad the areo bottle is on a bilke being raced without it. |

I had to trim the poofy to fit just right, but I did find a black one to match my bike, which as we all know is the most important thing. Not that I've seen my bike much lately. |

As far as the yellow thingy goes........I have lost every single one. Kitchen sponges work great and they are cheap and so do loufahs (sp?). I spoke to someone this past weekend that recommended taking the top of a water bottle and putting it over the hole and securing it with the rubber band that comes with the aerobottle. I haven't tried it yet but plan on giving that a try this coming weekend. |

If you use something other than water (InfinIT, for ex.) then it gets sticky all over, too. I used the big rubber band that it came with to keep the mesh from popping out. |

I simply put the Aero bottle between the bars when I install them. The spacing works fine and it holds the bars fairly securely. I then loop the rubber band around the bottle, over the bar and secure it around lip of the top opening. I do the same with the other rubber band around the other aero bar. That holds the bottle securely. I have had mine mounted this way all season without any issues. As tothe little yellow thing - Replaced it with a shower poof (red to match my bike) as several have recommended. I loop the string around the straw incase I want to ake it out so it does not get lost. I leave ine in most of the time. If I want to empty the bottle, I just hold my bike upside down to drain it. I only use water to avoid needing to clean it out or worry about splashing on e bike. |

Even if you think you've got it unraveled and you think you're happy, go buy a shower poofy and put it in there. Bigger, tighter fit yet all the benefits of the yellow thang. Way less splash-age, way less hassle, way MORE enjoyment of the aerobottle. Hangloose can attest, I was whining in my blog like a little schoolgirl until I shoved the poofie in there. Loved it ever since, just did a HIM with no issues and minimal/no splashage. |

Then you don't have to use the stupid elastics and you can just unvelcro the thing and take your bottle off. As for the yellow thing, I have never had a problem with it. If I fight with anything it is that silly straw in two pieces. Oh well. Better then grabbing a bottle any day. Matt |

I did unroll and rolled it to fit length wise down into the top under the top lip. I dont think that makes a lick of sense does it.... From the side mine would not look like one is in there. I will try to post a pic, it would make more sense. |

Member 1699 | Subject: RE: Answer to the little yellow thing-Areo bottle I did Chicago Accenture a few weeks ago and was very puzzed why there were dozens of yellow sponge looking things scattered throughout the course. I realize now that a Bed Bath and Beyond delivery truck did not lose its cargo as I first thought, but potholes on Lake Shore Drive bounced a bunch of those suckers out of aero bottles. I may have to get one of those. It sounds better than fighting to get the last out of my squeeze bottles while keeping one hand on my handlebars. |
