Pre-race routine:

Had discovered Sat night that I had failed to pack my running shoes. I had them packed but took them out of one of my bags to get my wet suit out for a Fri evening swim and did not put them back. Was getting everything ready about 9pm Sat when I figured out what I had done. I was wearing a pair of old Nike Trail shoes and I actually tried running in them but after about a half mile it became apparent that I would be crippled by the first mile so I called it a day.

Water was nice and I hit all the buoys, in fact I had my best navigation ever.

Lots of headwind. Had to make a couple of pee stops and had one charley horse which I had to walk off. Walked for about 5 minutes and it went away and never came back.

Oh man, Cracker. That sucks. Glad you had a good swim and bike, though. You didn't miss anything but pain and suffering on the course. I'm sure you're torn up about that!

Bummer you forgot to pack your shoes.

Nice job on good navigation on the swim... glad you were able to bike solidly get rid of your charlie horse and have it not return.

Shoe issue...argh...so hard to remember everything...I have lists of my lists for my first HIM next weekend...lots of crap to bring to a tri.

Oh man, what kick-myself-in-the-shorts moment when you realized. And by then it was too late to scower Greenwood for a running store. Looks like the rest of the race went pretty well, though!

Oh man, that really, really sucks. I am very glad to read that you didn't collapse on the course or something. When I saw you didn't finish I had all sorts of crazy things in my mind that could have happened and forgetting your shoes was definitely not one of them. You were ready for this race and you would have rocked it. You can show that course who's boss (for real ) next year.

I saw you stop to pee!!! Next time, put away that big hose behind a bigger tree.

Just kiddin'!

Nice chatting with you on the bike course. I was ready for a friendly face at that point, even if you were riding that cock-a-mamie bike.

Next time, call me and I will run to Dick's and get some shoes for you. At 8:30 I could have gotten to the store in time before it closed.... oh well. I was rather hoping we could run together since we are of similar pacing....

BTW, Derek messed up that picture he took of us coming in on the bike. Dang it!

What a bummer.....ya know, there are runners that go barefoot .....two of them passed me last year at the Seattle marathon.

Shoes?  Abele Bekila, the guy from Etheopia took his off at the Rome Olympics.

Get ur done next time.

Sorry to hear about the shoes.  I've always thought that I'd like to do an aquathlon; too bad the rd didn't have a category for it. Good job making the best of it anyway ...

Bummer about the shoes ... sounds like something that I would do!

Look on the bright side - you didn't have to run the 13.1

DOH!  Sorry about that... but hey, and least you had a solid swim and bike... just a glorified training day for you.  You should have come on over to drink beer with me after the ride... we were the obnoxiously loud cowbelling and cheering section .
