Pre-race routine:

I Took thursday and Friday off running this week and ran a very easy two miles saturday on the only part of the course i was not familiar with.

Ate a light BFast of Shredded wheat milk and chased it with a bottle of water, Same routine as before a long run.

Arrived 10 mins before and walked over to race start . Air was cool, A few peeps dressed in trash bags . I know ther is a good reason but it still Looks Goofy. Hung out with the fast Club runners near the front . After the national anthem we all took off. Only had to pass 3-4 peeps who should have started WAY back.
Event warmup:

Walked 5 mins from car to start . First uphill mile was a good warmup for me .

Comments:

This was my 3rd Half marathon and I again
PR the distance . The new course this year was changed a little with the second uphill section arriving later , great course support . Nice race , very pleasant weather
I did not feel too warm like i thought i might.

i was surprised to see how many sub 9 miles i was able to string together. Which was key to coming in Sub 2 hours in the race. I ran almost all the miles with different friends and worked hard with Brad from mile 3 to 7 where he got away from me when i took a gel and short walking break .
I closed in and passed blue rabbit i had been chasing since the start at mile 8 during the uphill section and then caught and passed Brad again at mile 12.5 and we both pushed hard over the two paseo bridges to finish he passed me again after mile 13 and arrived 2 seconds ahead of me.
Others i saw on the course Chris smoked past me at mile 3 , Dave Mc passed me at mile 7 and vanished in the distance like the Proverbial roadrunner .
David S I saw ahead at mile 5 but he was running well today and I was not going to catch him. Well done All. It was real fun ...

What would you do differently?:

Run 1 hour earlier in the morning early light.
Post race
Warm down:

Walked , dranked and ate .
Went for a swim later and the cool water felt great on my legs.

Looking forward to sitting my legs in the hot tub and drinking a few brews to celebrate. :)

What limited your ability to perform faster:

I was really happy with my pace and how aggressively I raced today.

Event comments:

Very nice race well organized . 1st class . Lots of friendly volunteers.

will update the numbers when they get posted on The website.

I volunteered at the race sign ups saturday. I enjoy the event and so I did
a little of the work needed to make it a success.

Sweet race, sub 9's, that's smoking fast in a half mary. I maintain 9:20's for a 10K and want to drop that

Thanks Zipp , This is my second year running this event : I started the race knowing the course and that I needed to be less cautious than last year in the early miles.
I really tried to hang on to some good runners in front of me . when i checked the mile splits at 3 and 4 they were sub 9s and the pace was sustainable . That made me happy I might finish with a good time .

Thanks All .

Results got posted today so i updated the RR a little .

I tried to register in the clydesdale category but was told by the race director there was not a way to do this at the expo. That the athena clydesdale divisions were handled by a different group. Sounded pretty strange since online and printed instructions to register was to do it at the expo and there would be a weight in. I looked for this at the expo but never found it.

Well looks like registering for the Half Mary race was a REALLY well kept secret as they only had 8 participants in a race with 1006 participants.

I like to think i might have placed considering the times posted here .

Excellent race. Way to go with the PR!

Sometimes it helps to have something to chase; albeit I'm usually chasing something else but that's a story for another day...

Great job out there Paul

Oh and thanks for the plug on this race. I have to say that it has to be one of the best kept secrets in the SoCal Marathon Circuit. Great race, fantastic Support and excellent race direction.

A friend of mine who also did the half pointed out that the half was very competitive for some reason and it seems like you got swept up a bit in it. (Nice strong finish)

Good On Ya
