Jeepfleeb, things are looking better for you.  Your age group is blowing up!  There are no longer only 75 in your AG...now there are 76...on pace to have at least 79 before it gets sold out!

If you think you wanna race an Ironman- just go for it. Forget sanity and everything else you might hold dear and important (for about 24 weeks beginning next June)- it is well worth it! You will never do anything more cool, inspiring, unique, unbeliveable, awesome, painful, ....in your life! Just go for it. We all jumped on the wagon when this unexpected cart rolled into town. These IM events are getting harder and harder to get into- take this one as a gift horse and sign up now while there is still time! We'll all get you through this crazy training.

Lodging- Some of the hotels will begin taking reservations next week. Also, check into condo's. We are renting one that is two bedroom, two bath, overlooks the lake and is about a mile from race staging area. Nothing is gonna be real close to the start. (but heck, traveling 140.6 miles on race day- what's a little 1 mile walk to and from race start!!?!?!?) With 3 or 4 people splitting the cost of a two bedroom condo, you can get something nice for a week for around $350 to $400 each! Check out this site to make contacts with the condo folks - VRBO.COM

Just an FYI.....I called Best Western (which is located on the opposite side of ASU and at the juncture of multiple loops of the bike and run course) directly just after I registered and got a reservation secured already at $89 per night. That was $20 less than what was listed on IM AZ. Start your shopping now before things start filling up.

Well this is my first post on here...

I was able to get in yesterday for November - I am extremely excited about the journey to my first full iron event!

I am sure I will learn much over the next year, both on this forum, as well out training.

I'm also in for this event....really looking forward this one. It will be my first time in AZ.
Third time toeing an IM start line (IM Canada in 2005 and IM Coeur D'Alene last year).

Thanks for the tip on the condos.

If any one is planning on doing the Florida 70.3 in May drop me a line. I saw a few BT'er there last year.

Safe training.

I'm in for IMAZ Nov. It'll be number 2 for me (IMWI this year). This one will be a challenge as no one is coming with me. Anyone ever do an IM with out fan support (not discounting the huge population that I don't know)?

This will be my first IM, so I can't comment on the support factor other than to tell you if by chance you do have someone come down to watch, you will see them plenty of times, as the course is very fan-friendly and you will make many passes (hopefully) by the spectators.

Just a few more days until we kick off a new year!  So what does everyones' race schedules look like for next year in order to gear up for IM AZ??  Here's mine:

    ?Feb- Myrtle Beach 1/2 Marathon
    March- Snicker's Albay 1/2 Marathon
    March- Parris Island sprint tri
    May- Bayshore marathon
May-June- focus on cycling and do a lot of metrics/centuries- ?Cartersville Century Ride?
August- start the 17 week intermediate IM training plan, Covington Metric Century Ride
Sept & Oct- MS 150 and Hardy 100 Century

Right now I'm doing the winter maintenance bike focus plan.  I'll start marathon training in January and will be using the FIRST plan so that I can continue to swim and bike regularly.  After my May marathon I'll hit biking hard (it's my weakest) and lay off of running a bit until IM training starts.  (I might find a sprint or an olympic to do to but I don't particularly like the shorter distance races).  And from there I'll just be in survival mode for the IM training   It seems like a long way's away but the time will go by fast!

    Mooseman Oly distance in June
    Timberman 70.3 in August
    Ironman Arizona in November

That's probably it for tri racing, but I'll be adding several 1/2 marathons as training runs, most likely these:

    Big Lake
    Boston Run to Remember
    Westfield MA, 1/2 mary

Hadn't decided on whether or not to do the Hyannis 1/2 mary in February yet.

    Early Season:
    Kinetic Half/Sprint
    Few local Sprints
"A" race Philly Oly in June

~ one month off - with just easy training

    Timberman 70.3
    Reston Oly
    IMAZ

Worried about making the tri-season too long with such a late IM, so I split the season in half with the first half primarily fun fast stuff and the second half focused on IMAZ

To gear up for IM AZ in November, I am starting the new year off with a marathon on Jan 5- Mississippi Blues Inangural (sorry, can't spell) Marathon here in Jackson, MS.
Recover....speed work.....base work, Century ride in April, 2 local tri's in June, another tri in July, another tri in August, MS150 Bike Tour in October- then the grand dance in November.
I'll keep an open mind for whaterver might pop up between now and then.

    Happy New Year everyone!!!

Welcome to the world of crazy IMWmn! Its a great place to be. You will have a great experience doing your first Ironman. You are just one age group ahead of me (W50-54).
Get a good training plan and stick to it. This blog site will help you too, expecially when we get into the last 2 months of training- the killer time. It helps to read about everyone else suffering just like you are - lol.
Glad to help out any I can or pass along any tips I have learned over my training and my one Ironman (Fla 06)

I'm trying to do a race a month, starting with March:
    Napa Valley Marathon in March
Moraga Sprint Tri in April (it's 2 blocks away, I can sleep until 6:15 and still make it to the start!!!)
    Napa Sprint Tri in May
Hopefully the Escape from Alcatraz in June. My daughter is already signed up, but I won't find out until February
Catfish Open Water Swim in July - Can I actually do 2.4 miles in the water?
Santa Cruz Olympic Tri in August
    Disneyland Half Marathon in August
    Big Kahuna HIM in September
    Tiburon Mile Swim in September

That SHOULD be enough, I think

Leadville Heavy Half (15.1mi) In July.

    Hey All,
When I raced IM FL in 2006, we had a great thread going with all of the participants sharing how our training was going and at the end our meeting plans for Florida.
Do we want to begin a new Thread along the lines of "IMAZ Nov 08 Training Talk" or something to that effect? Or is there already one and I just have not seen it yet. This one is titled participants so I was thinking going with a new one geared toward what is in store for us all- LOL the "fun" begins in June for IM training for most of us doing IMAZ in Nov.
Let me know what you think.....
And if any of you are also insane, umm, I mean man and/or woman enough to be doing IM AZ in April too- good luck! I have a friend here doing both (!!!)
