Pre-race routine:

Woke up at 5:45 at my in laws house, got dressed, had a banana and PB.
Event warmup:

It was cold when we got to the race and due to the size of the event, we had to park a little ways away. We had to hussle to the start line to get our clothes dropped off at the pick up spot, stand in line for port a potties and get to the start line. Not too much time for stretching, but I did do a little in the port a potty line and we ran to the clothes drop off, does that count as a warm up?

Comments:

I ran this on my own as Doug and his brother were at a faster pace and my sister in law was half an hour behind me. I wish I would have had some company, but I just tried eavesdropping on other people's conversations to keep my mind occupied. The first half of the race, I was really trying to hold back and not push myself as I kept reminding myself that I was 2 weeks out from a full marathon and I needed to save some energy and not injure myself. After mile 10, I felt a huge burst of energy and felt awesome. I pushed it up a notch for a bit and set my sites on keeping up with one faster person. With about three quarters of a mile to go, I slowed down as I was feeling a bit tired. Overall, I was really pleased with my time as my goal was to beat my last half marathon time of 2:20.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing
Post race
Warm down:

Stretched a little and then went to try to find Doug in the crowd of people. Headed into the Recovery area where they had lots of food. The chicken broth tasted awesome as I was getting cold by that point.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Nothing, at one point in my running career, I really didn't have confidence that I could run a 10k at a 10 min pace so to complete a half marathon under a 10 min pace was very exciting.

Event comments:

For that size of a race, it was very organized.

Today was also my oldest daughter's 9th birthday which I reflected on as I was running. I'll take running a half marathon over 30 hours of labor any day!

Overall: 0/
Performance: Good
Course: The course had some fairly decent hills, but not as bad as what I had heard from others. It was a scenic route through some very pretty neighborhoods and along Lake Washington. The only problem was that going up and over the overpass on the freeway we were way too crowded and it was difficult to pass people. There were several times where I felt like I just couldn't get into a groove because of the "herd" of people.

Jill, I'm so proud of you.  You did awesome!  Instead of eavesdropping on your fellow runners, you need to run with me at White Rock.  I'll keep ya talking!  Great job!

If the numbers are to be believed, you had a 6 minute negative split.  That's awesome!  Great run.

Great job, Jill! It looks like you had excellent running weather-cool and sunny! I'm not sure if I'll see you out at White Rock, since i'm just doing the half. So, good luck! I'll be looking forward to hearing about it!
