Subject: RE: Escape from Alcatraz TriathlonHey! Don't worry about the sharks. Similar to where I work, they are all bottom feeders. The sharks stories were over exaggerated to mess with the prisoners. I did the event last year. It was great. I used the BT intermediate olympic training plan and had no problems with conditioning. If I had to do it again, I would sight every 10 strokes instead of about every 3. I gave up too much time at the beginning before getting it down.
The hills on the bike are sizable, but if you have access to a computrainer you can down load the bike course! It gave me comfort knowing that I could do the hills.
The biggest challenge on the run is sand stairs. The secret is don't run them. Too many people do this and are cooked for the rest of the run. Frankly, I made-up time on tons of people after the sand stairs. I did not get a slot for this event this year. :-( However, I have a couple of friends that are doing the event. My wife is flying out on Sat or I'd be there swimming with you guys. However, I'll be there on Sunday. One thing you may wish to consider is that some of the local swimming club host pre-race swimming. You can probably find them the internet. Have fun. I'll be the guy cheering! |
