  • Comments: I have nothing to compare this race to, but it seemed to be very well organized. They sent emails leading up to the race and provided lots of assistance to new participants. This is a very good event for a new triathlete

  • Comments: I loved this race! The RD was so communicative with regard to the sketchy weather. We had some race day magic, though, and managed to only have wet roads and no rain. There were so many volunteers, and I never wondered where I should go. It was supportive and wonderful for new athletes. I just wish the post race food selection had been better. Bagels and pizza, that's fine. But no bananas?

  • Comments: When I saw my overall time I pleased that I had shaved off 2 minutes from my previous best tima at this race. However, I was 4/52 in my age group, so I was convinced I didn't place (they only give awards for the top 2 in AG). But, I just now found out that I was first in my AG because three other guys placed up in masters and clydes. Woo-hoo! I wish they would do the award ceremony earlier. Having one-way traffic for the swim really stretches out the overall length of the event. I guess I'd rather have a less-congested one-way swim than an earlier award ceremony...

  • Comments: I love this race and can only hope to be in it for the next 20 years+. Overall, I was thrilled with my results. I took over 7 minutes off my much improved time from last year. My swim training with RMST is like gold. I now have the confidence to get back into open water this Fall. My Reston Sprint 2011 will be all about improvement on the run!

  • Comments: Not my best race but my age group had almost nobody in it, so I won my age group! This doesn't happen often to me (only second time) and I've won my age group as often as I've placed in my age group...in fact I've never gotten 2nd or 3rd. I almost always just miss out on the awards so it was nice to bring home some hardware myself as my wife seems to always win her age group. Very cool, but definitely not my best race. Would do it again and would make for a great revenge race next year as my run split was off about 4 minutes from my last race. Either way, Success! The race was very well run and I would definitely recommend it to others. Great race to do your first triathlon but also had some very fast locals.

  • Comments: After the race I was chatting with Greg again, and another guy about our age came up to congratulate him on the race. He looked kind of familiar, and I saw that he had a '41' on his calf - could it be 'the other Jeff Davis'? Yes - it was!!! So, I finally got to meet him, and as we shook hands there was no matter-anti matter annihilation as I thought might happen! All kidding aside, we chatted a bit, talking about the race and the fact that my kids used to go to his practice. It turned out he and Greg grew up together. After a bit we saw that they had posted the first set of times. 'The other Jeff Davis' (that's what he calls me too!) and I were #3 and #4 in our age group. I thought for a minute - wouldn't it be funny if we had been one and two? I was pleased that I came close to placing, but I didn't really think that I would. Having seen my time, I decided to take off and not stick around for the award ceremony, as last year it dragged on and on. Boy do I regret that

  • Comments: Great race! Thank you for moving the food from the finish line. The course tweaks in the pool and the finish line were great. For my abilities, this is a hard course but I took 7 minutes off my time from last year!

  • Comments: Great hometown Sprint race with a lot of great competition. Overall, this is probably my best performance / placing of any race that I have done. I know the competition is tough, but I wanted to beat my performance last year, and I did that by over 2 minutes. I still did not get a trophy, but I am getting close, and I do not feel bad at all about what I have accomplished in the last 3 years.

  • Comments: One thing I can say overall about the race this year is that the competition was quite stiff and most definitely a step above last year. In 2008 there were only 4 racers who broke 1 hour, this year there were 9. Last year the time of the 20th place racer was 1:06:44, this year it was 1:03:25. I wasn't happy that there was no water table at mile 1. As I mentioned, they fixed the problem but it was too late for me at least for the first half of my run. And as evidenced by some of the other write-ups on this site some of the faster racers had no water at all. Something that made me go 'hmmm...': In the South Riding triathlon last fall I was bib #13 and I placed 13th in the race. In this event I was bib #41 and placed 40th. What's up with that?

  • Comments: heard some complaints about some foul ups at the start. didn't impact me. i was clueless and in line at the bathroom. ryan also said that water station was just setting up when he passed. they were there by the time i got by, but for 3 miles i don't really have a lot of needs anyway. i was fine.

  • Comments: Organization was better than last year except for having enough restrooms. By getting there early, I didn't have any issues but I felt bad for those waiting in the long lines. I know some missed their swim start because of it. I was happy to see Shelly123, Slake707, and 3558 at the finish line helping out the finishers and even better that I didn't hurl on them. Susan and my friend Oliver were there cheering me on and that was pretty cool.

  • Comments: I'm really disappointed with the swim start and lack of water on the course. I know that we all do this sport because we love it but I also find is discouraging that there was such a large error to some peoples start times. This is a sport that can separate a finish/place by one second, so every second really does count. Plus, how is it fair to those competitors who were in a way penalized for a disorganized start or those who were in a way given an advantage because their race started at the right time? (i'm pretty sure the side i was on, the "odd" side started on time) And the lack of water? Really? I know running a race is a large undertaking and things are always bound to go a little a rye but not having water is a big thing to some of us. As much as I love being able to race in our backyard and as great of a time as I had out on the course, I'm not sure I want to do this race again next year. On a more positive note: I really need to thank all the BTers, RMSTers, TeamFeXY,

  • Comments: Swim start times messed up and they did not have a water stop on the run course - I have no idea how this got messed up for the 2nd year in a row after the RD specifically told us that there would be 2x more water (last year they ran out) on the course. Contemplating not doing this race any more as the VA run/sprint in also in the month of May and is run much better.

  • Comments: I love this race! And I love Setup Events! They do such a good job with these things. I had a blast, and even though I didn't win anything, having fun is more important, isn't it? This was my second time with this race and I'll do it again next year. I'm very grateful for race day packet pick-up this year, and thankful someone in charge of the weather smiled upon us. I am thankful for Greg at Setup for letting me do this race. Overall... great day!
