  • Comments: Although my overall time was almost 4 minutes slower than the same race last year (altogether due to the swim) my rank among all women was much improved: 53rd %ile as opposed to 45%ile last year. That means I was faster than more than half of all women, the vast majority of whom are 20 years younger than me. This makes me feel as if my hard work is paying off. The weather forecast was for rain all day, with thunderstorms starting at 9:00 or 9:30. Before entering the water we were given emphatic instructions on how the kayakers would signal us to get out of the water, and how if we saw lightning on the bike we should "find shelter" and wait to be picked up. Given all of that, I was not optimistic about doing a complete race and started thinking of it as just practice. Amazingly, we had no thunderstorm and even the serious rain waited until everyone was done.

  • Comments: This race has a younger, more dedicated group of competitors then the races later in the summer. (57% of the women were under 40!). It's early in the season, and everyone knows the water will be cold. It isn't their only race of the year, just their first. It's no surprise that my percentile rankings were a bit lower than at last year's CLT. I'm very happy, though, with my total time, which was almost a minute faster than my most optimistic goal. All the gizmo failures changed the experience considerably: it was possibly a little less high-performance but more enjoyable. I should consider doing this deliberately once a year. Note: this event has the best post-race food anywhere. It's in the college dining hall; the food is plentiful, fresh, varied, & delicious!

  • Comments: I did the aquabike due to a winter knee issue. Besides the cold water, the swim was great as was transition and the bike route. I think they could have made it a little clearer as to what the aqua-bikers were supposed to do after the ride part. If my knee behaves I would love to do the full sprint or the intermediate some time. Staying on campus was very nice, although the rooms are very rough. My two main complaints about this event are 1) only two people knew what was going on (the Score-this announcer and the person in charge of medical). All the volunteers (and I mean all) and the remainder of the Score this staff were completely clueless as to what was going on and were worthless as far as answering questions. Yes, they had people around but it would really be nice if Score-this staff and volunteers knew something. Please update your wave schedule and the info you sent out before the race. None of it was even close to being accurate. While I understand there might be last minute changes,

  • Comments: we walked up and got a dry shirt from my bag and we were able to get our bikes. So I did. Lunch was not open for another 20 minutes. So we took the bike up to the truck and wandered over to get some lunch. Poor Ken. Mike and and I rocketed through the line of all kinds of good stuff. I was hitting the salad bar like a rabid rabbit when I turned around and there is Ken trying to negotiate with one arm as the other is in a sling. I told I was sorry. He said it was OK he found a nice lady to help him. I did offer to cut his meat up for him but it was tender enough to use the fork. We went back to check to see how I did and found out I was third in my AG. Sweet but awards are not for another 60 minutes then sitting through them. You know the 50-54 group is close to last. I told Ken let me see is I can get a ride back as I want my stuff but to make then wait another 90 minutes for third place. I get a ride back with Tom D. Thank you Tom. Ken has to drop Mike at my house so

  • Comments: I PR'd this race. I was very happy to not have to rest on the swim or the run. This race is also a bit of a tease for me too. I beat my best time by over 20 minutes, but I feel like I could have done better. I think I have the potential to do really great at the end of this year and next year.

  • Comments: This was my first year doing this race even though it is pretty close to home. Sorry I have waited as it is a lot of fun! If only the water was warmer! It was a lot of fun to have a group of us having a little smack talk and make the race a little bit of a group competition. Thanks Mike and Dud for the push!

  • Comments: First one of the season in the books and I like it. I took 3 minutes off my time from 2 years ago. I won a steak dinner from Heather, I'll make it a philly steak at work to show off a little. The boys and I didn't bet anything this race but give us an idea were we are. We had a great lunch at the college, the food from here out goes downhill for the season. I am pleasantly surprised to hold Ken off as he trains three times as hard as me. The guy is dedicated and cleaned my clock at the Spring Duathlon, even if I hadn't made a wrong turn. Its the swim that makes the different, can't win it but it can make it tough to win. Thanks for the push on the run Mike. Ken thanks for the ride and hard chase. Kara you need to start training for mini-mussel, thanks for the volunteers on the course today. Oh no podium but close 4/23 in AG. Missed by a minute and half. Lots to make up.

  • Comments: For my first triathlon, I was very happy. The race course was really nice, and the transition had plenty of room. Starting 10-15 mins late was a bit of a bummer, but other than that, a great race. Looking forward to doing it next year and improving!

  • Comments: this being my first tri i suppose just finishing is good to do , but i feel that given a better comfort level on the swim and bike portions that i would be able to signifcantly improve my overall times .

  • Comments: Post race food is the best I've seen anywhere! I'd rate it higher if the road were better (promises of paving for next year - we'll see...) I was happy with my performance since I wasn't really expecting to do well coming off Corporate Challenge. The lake temperature was a nice surprise too as I worried for months about how cold that lake would be!!

  • Comments: only thing bad was the road - lots of debris and potholes. The food was fantastic. I hope they repave the roads soon so I can do this race again just for the food.

  • Comments: Two observations: 1) Road conditions for bike course were rough, but that is out of race directors control (supposed to be repaved next year) 2) Too few markers on the swim course. Even for a good swimmer it was difficult to see the next market at multiple points in the swim.

  • Comments: The race was put together nicely but the road conditions could have been better. I knew it was going to be bad going in though, so I was prepared for it. I really don't have anything to compare it to, but the transition area seemed a little unorganized and jammed. The post race meal makes me want to come back again next year- really great!

  • Comments: Great race, well organized. Transition area was set up nice and well controlled for access. Not the best swim race for spectators but everywhere else was good. Tons of volunteers on the road during the bike. Adequate aid stations on the run.

  • Comments: I have nothing to compare this too, but I thought it was great!! My only comment is I wish there were more people around Saturday who I could have spoken with to ask questions. It was a lot of fun, all of the race people and many of the athletes were very nice and encouraging. No one laughed in my face when I was almost the last one out of the water!! It was a nice course for a total beginner, bike hills were very manageable, and the run (walk for me) was nice and easy for the end.

  • Comments: This was the start of the Tri season and it went well. I had a hard time psyching myself up for this race and really had no expectation for it good or bad. It was more like just do it and did I did. It was the second time sub 1:30. Sweet. Right where I left off last year. I did enjoy the race and wanted to do well after we started. I had fun on the bike despite the road surface. Run was a good mental push for me, mainly because the physical stuff was missing. Great food for this race after. College Cafe does a great menu and Mike referred to as project Clydesdale. I may be closer then I want to be now. This was a well tum race with lots of cheering volunteers. To all the BT'ers I met great job today. I forget names easy like in a second or two. So we can meet again next year. Some times I even wrap my own birthday presents. Mike thanks for the lift. Y thanks for letting the girls hang with you. Will for putting up with more then a senior should have to the day
