  • Comments: I let my mental preparedness slip in this one, which I'm kicking myself for now. I should have just calmed down in the swim and taken my time, realizing that the world will not come to an end if I take a little longer than I originally thought. And...I will never do anything new on race day EVER AGAIN. Overall, it was a great experience and I CAN'T WAIT to do another one!

  • Comments: Welcome to my world of self-doubt and poor self esteem. I set a goal of 3:30- beat it by 16 minutes. You think I'd be happy, right? No, of course not. I had to go and compare my results to Andy, Steve, Ed, and Christine and was bummed that I was slowest in every aspect of the race. I tell myself every day that I'm out to race against MYSELF, no one else. (Oh, and by the way- I'm not even close to the talent and speed of those 4). Yet as soon as I cross that finish line, I want to compare myself to everyone else. How can I be disappointed in myself if during the whole race I'm "just racing against myself"?????? So that being said, I beat my goal, had 5 people on the course cheering for me, and found our son's inspiration poster. If you figure out my problem, let me know. I don't know...... wish I did. What can I say, I'm a dork. BUT, a dork that just finished her first OLY. EAT THAT!

  • Comments: While the bike gets a little congested (especially on the second loop), the race is very well done and it's right in Philly which is nice. And, of course, when you get weather like we had it makes everything seem better and the little "nits" fade to the background more.

  • Comments: Despite feeling ill, I had a great time, starting with the expo on Friday. This is a great race. The weak link will always be the water conditions for the swim. Thankfully, everything lined up for yesterday.

  • Comments: My team rocked! We got first out of ALL the relay teams. I was definetly the weaker link, so I feel like I don't deserve the win. BUT, I have to remind myself that I still did good considering it was still only my 2nd OW race. And even though I swam more distance today, I improved my pace. Next year, we'll totally smoke the other teams.

  • Comments: The race director did a great job setting up the race and dealing with all the unhappy athletes. He had to make a tough call when he canceled the swim but it was for our safety. The river looked like chocolate milk with a steady stream of debris floating on top. I knew there were a few BT folks at this race and was looking for BT jerseys but didn't see any. There were a couple of BT members in my heat, group 5 with black swim caps, but I still didn't get to meet any of them. For those BT members in my group (black) I was the person in the purple TNT singlet with full sleeves of tattoos on both arms and back. Anyone see me?

  • Comments: The Philly Tri is a great event. The weak link is the swim in the Schuylkill. So that just comes with it. I think it's worth taking the risk that the race will turn into a Du. Plus, I found that I actually enjoyed the Du. I will definitely do this race again.

  • Comments: This race was great (even without a swim) and I suggest everyone does it next year. I LOVED IT!! Especially the bike course (in case I haven't done a good enough job conveying that point). :)

  • Comments: I was very disappointed that the swim was cancelled. Overall I still beat my time from last year by over 2:00, but I'm sure I could have taken at least 5:00 off with a swim instead of the 5k. I've been swimming stronger than I have in years, and I'm sure I could have done the swim in 20 to 21 minutes. I did it last year in 24 with very little swim prep, which was still faster then my 5k split this year.

  • Comments: great race... great organization... they handled the swim cancellation and the run addition really well and even though you could tell they were upset to cancel it, they looked out for swimmers health and made the right decision.

  • Comments: The swim here is a risk you know about going in. I was disappointed, but it was probably a good call on the RD's part. And they did a good job in having the course ready for the duathlon--still getting everthing off on time. Hopefully next year I'll actually finish a full Philly Triathlon!

  • Comments: Race organizers were really at the mercy of Mother Nature--who had no mercy. It poored with rain during the sprint race a day earlier, and that same rain led to cancelling the swim for this race. They handled the situation very well, and the duathlon went off without a hitch. I'll definitely be back next year.

  • Comments: This is right up there with one of my worst performances ever, including college swim meets. No matter how hard I tried to psyche myself up for this race after Eagleman, I just couldn't get in the right mindset and it was totally destroyed with the no swim announcement. The no swim killed me. I'm no knocking the event. They put on a spectacular race last year and this year they were extremely well prepared for the weather and changing it to a du. The course was clearly marked and the volunteers were great. I just had a bad day. The only thing I will take away from this is a training day. Not counting it as an OLY PR, not counting it as a du, or even as a race for that matter. I'll never register outright for a duathlon and could quite possibly consider not racing if this happens again, but that will have to be a game-time decision. If you couldn't guess I did not have a good day, not any fun.

  • Comments: Absolutely loved it despite the fact the swim was cancelled. The water was a muddy mess with chunks of trees floating by and all....organizers really did trhought of everything; waterbottle exchange station on the bike course, waterstation spaced just right on the run, photographers EVERYWHERE, awesome volunteers, course was easy to follow, athletes could be tracked by voicemail or email..I even think there was a video finish!
