  • Comments: I'm pretty proud of myself. I don't know where that swim came from, its my fastest ever. I pulled my act together on the bike, and just survived the run. Alas, not my goal time of 3:00, but that's ok. :)

  • Comments: Even with the physical issues I had a BLAST at this race. I was mentally prepared and felt my training was adequate. Now that I have my first race under my belt I can focus on where I can improve. The race was well organized. Everyone I dealt with from the bike inspection at Princeton Sports, to the people at the expo to race volunteers and officials were great.

  • Comments: Analysis: 2007 2006 Time Place Time Place Swim 26:53 67 29:50 100 Bike 1:16:39 36 1:15:48 25 Run 46:00 21 45:28 22 Overall 2:34:00 25 2:35:40 35 My biggest gain came from the swim. Happy, but I feel like I could have done better. Yards in the pool paid off. My biggest loss came from the bike, which is a bit frustrating because, like the swim, I've put in more miles this year than last. The bike was mostly mental. I was only 32 seconds slower this year? And a place higher? Go figure. This training stuff is way over-rated. I gained time during transition. Even T1. HR-wise I definitely pushed harder last year: swim HR was 133, bike 139, and the run was a few beats higher as well. Overall I'm satisfied with the results. I bettered my overall time by 1:40, and finished 10 places higher in my AG. I also feel like I left a little time on the course. Next year's goal: <2:30!

  • Comments: The RD, Rob Viggorito, is top notch, they just don't get any better! The logistics for this race are simply incredible and amazing. The course, the timing, the super volunteers, awesome police, fire, and EMT personnel, everyone involved were fantastic. I can't wait to do this race next year!

  • Comments: The Columbia Triathlon has a well-deserved reputation for being one of the best races around. The volunteers, the community, and everyone involved make it a great event. I'll definitely do this one again next year.

  • Comments: Great race! I never found the food tent - but then again I had the DCtriclub tent for a great hot dog! This was my first race that was over around 500-600 participants. Wow what a difference 1500+ people makes! I know this is silly but the coolest thing was the results were up at the end of the race and were posted by AG. Now that is cool! Races like this remind me that after this IM "experiment" that I am training for now that I will be back racing 1-2 Olys a month. Its my favorite distance (LONG SWIM relative) and I like to hammer. Pacing is not my thing. :)

  • Comments: There's no wonder why this race is so popular....it will definitely be on my schedule for many years to come. This was the most organized, well-run and supported event I've ever done and the course was fantastic. CTA is really top-notch!

  • Comments: Not a convenient race due to size and transition area restriction (had to vacate transition by 7 am and my wave didn't go until after 8 so a long time standing around in the cool morning. But the course is fantastic. I loved it and felt as though I raced it well. In fact, I did a lot better than I had expected to. Did I mention this was my first race after having the baby? He is 9.5 months old and I am proud that I was out racing - until I heard that the winning female pro had a baby 6 months ago :)

  • Comments: This is, without a doubt, the premier olympic distance race in the Mid-Atlantic, perhaps in the country. Race organization, direction, volunteers, and police and community support are all top notch.

  • Comments: Crowd support was fairly minimal throughout most of the race, although there was quite a large gathering along the finishing chute. I high-fived around 20 people while running across the finishing line. A great way to finish! This will definitely be on my schedule for next year. The race is extremely well organized. The course is awesome. A great Spring challenge!

  • Comments: No food for the athletes who don't belong to one of the local clubs? My other races have all had some kind of post-race food so I was kind of surprised by that. I would have stayed to cheer other people on but I was so starved!!!!!!!!!

  • Comments: Starting the run, I was only 25 seconds behind last year's time, but finished 4 minutes slower - meaning I transitioned faster, but performed slower in each event. This is a very challenging course, but it's where I grew up, so I love it. I checked back on how much training I really did compared against the training plan I was using, and didn't come close to half! Lifting - 11:50 / 41:30 = 28.5% Swimming - 19:07 / 54:30 = 35.1% Biking - 27:01 / 73:20 = 36.8% Running - 37:23 / 49:10 = 76.0% Time to get serious about the Colonial Beach Tri!!

  • Overall course based on my ability:

  • Comments: A very challenging race. I felt pretty good to come in at 2:35 (top 21%) considering the way the race started. Also, it was the kind of course that knowing what to expect plays a role in how fast you go - when to push, when to hold back, etc... It made me feel like I left some time on the course. This year I have not sought out hills to train on and have tried to do more aerobic endurance workouts than threshold workouts. I believe I can break 2:30 if I choose to make this race more of a focus of my training.

  • Comments: This is a very well run race. The course is challenging but fun. And the venue is one of the best I have seen for spectators to enjoy the day as well. Anyone in the region should consider doing this race.

  • Comments: I had been waiting for this race since last summer, when I decided I wanted to be a triathlete. The race was well organized, plenty of volunteers, and a generally great atmosphere. I also really enjoyed having a group of training partners with me at the race to greet me at the end. There is nothing like seeing the faces of those you've trained with so hard for this race. I'm going to take the next 2-3 days off for recovery, then do a little swimming, or some lite running. Now I have 3 weeks until my next olympic.
