  • Comments: Great post race food. Was again amazing to have the team there racing and spectating and have the tent in a prime location. Set Up does a great job with their events. And I had a 4 minute PR from last year's sprint. :)

  • Comments: Awesome race by SetupEvents, especially considering they had to change the venue with only about 3 days notice. The new caterer for the food did a great job, and it was nice to have the party area separate from transition so we could cheer the runners on. Gravel roads were manageable, and they brought back our shoes from the swim start, so that worked out well. A fun race to start the season with friends.

  • Comments: Good race. Run was dicey, but with the last minute venue change, everything else was incredibly smooth. Set-up does a really good job.

  • Comments: Note that this is really a 4.5 rating for the race. Additional comments after finishing: Well, I try to look for others to congratulate and eventually find Rosalind and Catie. Both finished and Catie survived the swim (yea!). Congratulate them, tell them about getting 4th. Talk about the race more and then head back to see about picking up my gear. And as you might expect, the gear awaiting me is pretty much mud-covered (the word of the day): sandals I walked around in, running shoes, bike wheels/bottom portion of the bike, towel, wetsuit, and googles. Got some cleanup to do later. After taking gear back, I thought about just going home, but stuck around for the awards to congratulate Kip, who took 1st today in Master Clydesdales, and Lucas, who won overall despite the 32-spoke front wheel on his bike. Some nice beach towels this year for AG awards. Dang, could've used one of those too. Well perhaps another year. Say my goodbyes to folks and head on home. Results were posted

  • Comments: I don't have any tri races to compare this too, but overall I'd say this was a good race. It was well run and I had no issues that could have been controlled by the event management. For my first tri, I'm happy with the overall experience. I did fairly well in relation to what I was projecting based on my training (about a 1:25) and found the areas that I need to work on for future races.

  • Comments: The race itself is well put together. The only negatives were a result of the previous day's weather which obviously is outside the span of control of the organizers. Great atmosphere both pre & post race.

  • Comments: My first race but it was very well organized and had a great atmosphere - enjoyed every part of it. Maybe organizers could have done a little more to handle the all the mud from the day before - e.g. putting out more mats in critical areas before the sprint started.

  • Comments: Race was just a bit delayed because they brought the ambulance in for someone in the first wave in the water. They didn't bring him out so not sure what happened to them, maybe left on their own or stayed. But not much of a delay. Had a lot of kid volunteers but they were really good. Kept cheering everyone on and telling them how great they were doing, even the back of the pack turtles like me coming in at the end. Really fun race. Would do it again.

  • Comments: Only my third triathlon so no much to compare it with. But as a Brit resident am always impressed by the smooth organisation of these types of events. Some good touches (e.g. Sat packet pick up, plenty of space it transition, unfussed dealing with early wave swim 'problem'.) I appreciated the tech T-shirt with funky logo (no need for race medals) enjoyed the crystallised fruit (!), announcer was really encouraging, and nearly everything around transition seemed to go well apart from perhaps some 'roping' issues with the crowd. Downside is that the run is really punishing at the start and end. I'd read the BT race reports of 2009 race and did a recce on Saturday afternoon but it is literally a pain to run over that terrain if you are not a trail runner. The gravel was almost as bad on the way back. That's why I'm giving the race a 4/5 - otherwise very pleased with the event and my performance.

  • Comments: After I saw my preliminary place and time, I felt a little bit disappointed. I had put effort into the swim and thought I was doing okay considering the swim caps I was seeing around me. I had also thought I was doing better on the bike and the run felt strong even with the fade at the end. But, that feeling quickly disappeared as I saw that I apparently took 2nd in my new age group this year, M 50-54. Oh what a feeling! And this is confirmed during the awards ceremony as I receive a nice big glass mug for an AG award and get my picture taken along with one of the other top 3 M50-54 finishers. I'll be sure to use it for big glasses of be... um, water during the summer. ;-) Overall, I was pleased with Setup's conduct of the race and course selection. Everything seemed to be organized pretty well and there were enough pleasant volunteers on hand to help everyone out. Plus, I find practical awards more useful than medals. I still prefer bagels, pasta, sandwiches, and gatorade afterwards,

  • Comments: Though I woke up completely exhausted I'm glad that we went and did this race. I've also been training hard for the last few weeks and it was good to see that I can still push hard when I am tired. It was pretty mentally challenging day but I had a great time racing.

  • Comments: This race was a great introduction to open water swimming and a great first sprint for me. The only thing I would change was the fact that the run course went through the woods for a good bit at the start and finish. This limited my pace and the uneven ground was especially hard to deal with when I was so tired at that point.

  • Comments: Crappy run course - they need to change it back to the flat part. The trail run through the woods and the 2 ditches you had to cross, not to mention the section through the parking lot were unacceptable. Crappy way to start the season, for me. Not sure what happened, but I just fell apart. The only consolation is that the first time I did this course, it took me longer to finish AND the run that time was easier. So I did do "better", though I would have liked to have done about 10 minutes better than I did today. I did enjoy the crowd support from Team Z, though - was fun to see everyone out on the course (even if they all passed me on the bike), cheering at T1/T2, and at the end as I was coming in.
