  • Comments: They really need to rethink this race and have more help. I know this is a tough course but support is a must on a course like this and they did not provide it. I know it is a individual sport but when you have lots of trouble like I did the support needs to be there and not leave you out there for that long to fin for your self.

  • Comments: I started my own business last year. In April, it got the best of me and I had to limit my training. This continued through June. I did not start at Lonestar and I did nto want to do that twice in a row, so I showed up knowing it was going to be a long, tough day. I went from wanting to PR the distance earlier this year to matching my PR, to wanting to PR the course by th etime race day showed up. Teh last time I did this race, which was in 2004, I weighed 35 pounds more than now and did not really know how to train for this distance. I knocked an hour off of my previous best time at this course but I was an horu 20 minutes slower than my last 1/2 IM. I guess proper training makes a HUGE difference :-0 This race was just about gutting it out when I knew I was in for a tough day.

  • Comments: Overall this is a great race. I wish it was closer so I could of pre-road the course to know what to expect. I felt like I did everything right and I really don't have any clue what happen. Those hills must of really affected me.

  • Comments: BSLT puts on a great awards banquet. The banquet in the evening after the race. Every year I've done BSLT there has been a band, great food, and of course the awards. This year was BSLT's 20th anniversary, so they had Mike Riley, the voice of Ironman, come in to call the race and the awards banquet. I wasn't planning on getting close to a Clearwater slot at this race. This course is tough and I really didn't plan to place as high as I did. When I saw I was 10th, I told Michele to bring her check book. Of course the one Kona slot went to the guy in first place. Then there were 3 Clearwater slots. I think the guy in third on the podium took one slot. Then Mike Riley started calling other names. No one was there. When Mike called Thomas Smith I whispered to Michele "I'm next". I'm going to Clearwater.

  • Comments: Tough HIM Course, but a good change. I would rate this course as much more difficult than LongHorn or LoneStar, the other TX HIM's I've done. Scenery is either much more interesting than either of those races, or much more boring, depending on which part of the course you're on. A few other comments: 1. This is not a spectator friendly race. My wife and sister-in-law had to pay $6 a piece to get in to watch. I think this should be mentioned in the race info so people are not surprised. 2. No outhouses on the bike course. 56-miles can be a long way to hold it. All in all, I'd like to do this race again. I'd recommend it.

  • Comments: Buffalo Springs 70.3 is heralded as one of the more difficult 70.3 races. I believe it after this experience. If you're not a smart cyclist, those hills could really eat you up. And if they don't, the hills on the run can. And on a hot, windy day like Lubbock usually brings, this course could be a beast of a challenge. We were fortunate to have the weather being in the 80's, although the wind was a bit significant. Regardless, I really do not like the west Texas terrain. I find it dry and boring. There's just not much color. The run course was ok, since it was on the lake. But the bike course was boring I felt. I would've like to have seen more hills. Going flat for long stretches just isn't appealing to me. But the producers of this race really do an excellent job of creating a good fun atmosphere. I wouldn't discourage anybody from competing in this race, but I can say that I will not ever race BSLT again.

  • Comments: A tough but enjoyable course. Need to be prepared for hills on the bike and run! Well organized and great volunteers. Parking was surprising easy given that there is only one road coming into the park and only one parking lot. Post-race food pretty skimpy. No port-o-potties in the bike course! The course really got the best of me this time, but I'll be back to get revenge!

  • Comments: I love BSLT 70.3, it is a hard race but well run. Despite the fact that I beat my last BSLT time by 21 minutes and 23 seconds I still ended up 4th. My last, slower time took first place that year.

  • Comments: Great race. Would definitely recommend it. Would do it again, but it's difficult to make the drive to Lubbock with the Longhorn right in my backyard. All things being equal, I think Lubbock may be a little easier than the Longhorn, but both are great, challenging races.

  • Comments: The organization was great and the volunteers were amazing. They were everywhere, like ants but good ants. You really need to have a great support network around you in order to be successful at events of this nature. I am so fortunate to have a wonderful family, network of tri friends that I can actually touch, and a simply amazing group of friends here on BT that I do hope to drink a beer with one day. Thanks everyone!

  • Comments: Everything was great, except the racers needed more food at the end. I was at the olympic distance race about a month earlier and they had more food. The awards were great, and there was plenty of food there, but I wish they would get to the clydesdale and athena awards first, we can't get slots for Kona or Clearwater so once those are given out no one even pays attention. I have already registered for next years race.

  • Comments: I am pretty sure I will never do this race again. I like the course but I have other fish to fry. I came out of this race feeling more confident that I have in the past. It was a good building block for my A race this summer.

  • Comments: It is a challenge - one to which I plan to face again in the near future. Maybe this time with a friend of family waiting for me - BTW Thank Debbie, Kai and Coach Gerald for waiting for me at the finish line. There are times being a loner really sucks, but you were there for me at the one place it mattered.

  • Comments: The volunteers were awesome. I saw one young man at an aide station chase a runner down to give him the drink he asked for _ I mean sprint out of the aide station to catch this runner. Lovely venue. I would rope off the shallows at the start of the swim if I were race director. If they don't and you want to be competitive you should preview this part of the course.

  • Comments: I think the way this course is run and the volunteers make it a top ranked triathlon in my book. Everyone is so friendly, even the competitors, despite the swim. This is the first time I stayed in the host hotel and that was cool, because the whole hotel was booked with triathletes and I actually got a good nights sleep before the race!

  • Comments: overall this was a HIM PR for me and i was very pleased with my performance. i considered this an A race in order to help gauge myself for IMAZ in nov. i really feel i am built for the long races and the longer the are the better. this race helped confirm my swim has come a long way and my run is really getting strong due to consistent training w/o injury. the focus on the next 4 months will be to maintain the swim and run and build on my bike. congrats to the other finishers on this site. big congrats to my friend grant who qualified for kona in the 18-24 AG and turned down $400 to pass on his slot so the #2 guy could collect it. sorry buddy but you got to win that spot not buy it. and really big congrats to anysley o for making to journey from canada to tx and finishing strong. stick with it and you will thank yourself in the long run :)

  • Comments: Everyone preps for the heat at BSLT (which can be brutal). Few anticipate cool weather and rain; it made for a bit of a treacherous course, but I still liked it. A challenging day mentally, and I like the terrain we don't get in the Dallas races. Even though we didn't face the heat, and I wasn't pushing overly hard, I still felt like I really accomplished something just b/c of the terrain. I like the beach start for the swim, although they need to cut out the ability to run so far into the water. Well organized race, and the volunteers were plentiful and great! Perhaps the best med tent I've been in; they were clearly ready for the normal, hot conditions. Post-race really wasn't very good. Food was bagels, watermelon, and oranges, although there was beer. Not a very spectator-friendly course; and, other than the beach, not much for spectators to do during the race. Also, nowhere to hide out had the heat been in full-swing, so I'd recommend not bringing the family to this

  • Comments: Volunteers were pretty good for everything, especially the run course and bottle hand-ups. The post-race food was pretty lacking. Nothing had any protein in it, and I think they need something like that out there. Not a fan of pizza or burgers, but a few more options were necessary. They advertised sponges, and maybe I missed them, but that would've been nice. Not horribly needed that day, but if it had been hotter, they would've been needed. The Athlete Dinner was "okay" afterwards, though the amount charged for non-athletes was too much I thought..the emcee talked A LOT. This was a VERY VERY competitive field out there. The times for this year, in my AG, compared to last years results were PHENOMENALLY faster despite the conditions. Very few return racers and lots of far from home racers. That is no problem, with the Kona and Clearwater slots, it's no surprise. I definitely didn't expect the field to be as strong as it was, but there were some incredible athletes out there. I
