  • Comments: Really good race for me, especially considering the difficulties on the run. It felt like a real accomplishment to set my mind on this and do it. It felt even better when I got my time and knew for sure I hit my time goal. Not bad to go from couch to 41st percentile in my AG in the first season. A little more work (actually a LOT) and I'd like to be in the top 25%. I had a good time, but I won't be doing it again. I'm very happy I was able to do this in my first season so close to home, but for the same expense, I will now travel out of state and do different races. Philadelphia 2009!

  • Comments: This is a really well organized and fun race. It's big and it's all in NYC so the logistics may not be appealing to some, but I didn't mind. I think it will be hard to match this experience in another race. I hope to do it again next year.

  • Comments: Great race, but the logistical difficulties really were a hassle. I would not do this race again given all the hassle. Was generally please with my race. Happy about the bike and swim, but disappointed with my run. Overall, though I improved my Oly distance PR by 10 minutes, but failed to achieve my stretch goal of breaking 3 hours.

  • Comments: Wonderful first olympic race! I had such a fun time, even despite the logistics of getting into, around and out of NYC. The event was very organized, great enthusiasm from athletes, volunteers and spectators. I would do this again in a heartbeat!

  • Comments: This race isn't perfect, by any means, but they do an amazing job, considering the magnitude of it. It's a great course, there are zillions of super-helpful volunteers, the expo and the post-race stuff is fantastic. It's expensive, and it has other flaws, but it's not for nothing that it's one of the premier events in the country. I'll definitely do this race again, but I'll probably volunteer next year so that I can do it again in '10 for free.

  • Comments: I really do love this race -it was my first tri last year and i think I will alwyas come back every year. I was hoping for sub 3:00 today, but it was not meant to be, I am really disappointed, but it's my own fault - I trained for this like my B race and the results show this. I am a little worried I may not be prepared for my HIM in October. I think I'll need to get some advice about my training schedule between now and then -I was hoping a good outcome here would give me confidence going into Oct., unfortunately it has shaken my confidence a bit. I'm being a little hard on myself, considering the circumstances I did OK, but I'll be back next year and as long as it takes to get that sub 3:00 time.

  • Comments: I would say 5, if they had thought of a few more things, like carpeting on the asphalt, educating the volunteers about the rules (such as you won't be disqualified for using the medical tent) and having tweezers in the medical tent. Also, mentioning there were jelly-fish would have been nice. However, the volunteers were spectacular, and it really was the "iron-man treatment" with a finishers hat, med tents, and the quality of volunteers that you get from ironman. It was really cool, although I am debating if I want to do it again next year.

  • Comments: I really loved this race. Maybe because it was my first OLY? Maybe because it is right near my house? Maybe because it is NYC or Maybe the Hudson Swim. Either way I am hooked on triathlon and I will be back for this one next year when the current should be even stronger!!!!

  • Comments: New PR! WOW! What a race! I was hoping to cut 15 minutes off of Chattanooga for a new PR, but shaving 28 minutes, 6 seconds! That put me in the top 21% for my a/g! I was a little down after Chattanooga a week ago, but I think I took away a lot of learning points and was able to apply them here. I was also able to dump a lot of mental trash in the first half mile of the bike. Despite comments about swimming in the Hudson, I would do this race again. However, a lot of things came together that allowed me to do this race very, very cheaply which included a very cool perk! A small group breakfast Saturday morning with Hunter Kemper. I also met Dave Scott and Sarah Reinertsen. They were very generous with their time and loved talking tri with everyone! What an awesome weekend in NYC! The only way it could have been better would have been meeting Emma Snowsill.

  • Comments: We really enjoyed this race overall. Very fun, New York weather was great, lot's to do and keep us entertained. It's not as expensive as D.C. in some ways which was surprising. We stayed in a hotel BelleClaire near the Tranistion area, which was nice and we got good rates as well. Overall, the whole course was challenging, and beautiful. It was a great way to finish our Triathlon season. Notes for Race Director The race, as a whole was planned well, executed a meh...ok. Not enough volunteers, the transitions and start times were very poorly organized. My 30-34 swim wave, bright green caps, started at 8:07 and guess what, the 35-39 year olds were bright green swim caps as well, and they started at 8:15. 1) Have the Transition area open earlier on Saturday, there's no reason to have everybody wait till 2:00 pm to setup transition. Also, open the Transition area up until the first swim start, then kick everyone out. The Red Transition area's swim didn't start until 7:20 or

  • Comments: I really can't tell what kind of swimmer I am because this swim does not test your ability to deal with waves and also the current aids you so much. I am going to try some Sprints to get a better feel for my swimming skills. If I can get more comfortable swimming, I think I will enjoy this sport a lot. Overall, I'm very pleased with my 1st Triathlon! Thanks to everyone who offered support, encouragement, tips, advise, help, inspiration, etc.

  • Comments: Very proud to call myself a triathlete. Exceeded my stretch goal time and left everything I had that day out on the course. Made some poor in-race decisions, but overall very happy with the results.

  • Comments: Love the race. Current helpful - perhaps too much so. Closed bike course is great. Don't like how far swim end is to transition and race end to transition, but it's NYC - so space is difficult. Also, 4000 is A LOT of people. Wish swim was a little less packed.

  • Comments: This is an extremely organized race. But like others have already posted in race reports, between registering at a hotel far from the transition area, having to really stretch out the waves, the general grossness of the Hudson river, and finishing the race over 1 mile from the transition area, there are several logistic problems. It is very cool to race in Manhattan--and having the whole course closed to cars is a great bonus. It will be on my race schedule again next year.
