Emily, I have been mulling this around in my head for a bit, so I googled and found that my Canadian geography is useless. I also found a listing on bike clubs in Ontario. You may find it beneficial to meet up with one of them on a morning and see what it is all about. Mine does an occasional coached ride, which spends the first 30 minutes or so working on basic skills. WOW! This is great. Not something I ever would have thought of. I'm also going to put it out there into the Facebook world. Apparently I have some pretty avid cyclist friends. I can see how this biking thing is something people enjoy. Don't feel bad about your Canadian geography. It took us 31hrs to get home from Florida, because I insisted we go the "flat" way. It's a 20hr drive normally. 31 hours in a 7 seater van with 7 people. |

Easiest to put on and felt it held the bikes the best. Slide it in and attach the bolt. But it was also the most expensive as I had to get the hitch mount plus the rack. |

I rode my mountain bike with just cages for several months before getting my road bike/clips because I was so nervous about shifting and falling over. The "trick" for me was to ride around the neighborhood (minimal cars) and shift up and down on big/small rings to get a feel for which hand does what. The feel and sound and time it takes to move between gears is just something that will take T.I.T.S to get used to. I wanted to see what was going on, so (before we had a bike trainer) I had my husband hold up the back of my bike and "pedal" while I used the shifters and watched the chain move. Yeah, mostly it take some practice and becoming familiar with things. I don't recall what type of bike it was, mostly if it was a road bike or a tri/tt bike (or something else). Basically know that your left hand will control the front. Both for braking and shifting. Front brake is on the front wheel. Front shifting is by the cranks (or pedals). The right hand controls the rear brake and rear shifting, both on the rear wheel. For shifting, most of the time you'll be using the rear, so your right hand. Since you seem so new to this, I usually recommend just leaving the front on the smaller chainring and getting used to using the rear for a bit. If your bike has 3 rings up front (instead of 2), my guess would be to use the middle one more often, though some may need to use the smallest one. In looking the first post over again, are you still having trouble moving the chain each way? Each shifter can move the chain both directions depending on which of the levers you use or which direction you move the lever. The method depends on the type of shifter, and for that it's helpful to know what the bike is. I think it would get confusing to write out the several methods and then figure out which it is as the amount of info may be a bit overwhelming. |

I just got my first road bike and I've been riding on the canal path as it is straight and flat. I've just been playing with the gears to see what moves what and where it moves the chain. Because I don't have to worry about traffic, it has been very useful for me. Also, the LBS where I bought it offers a lot of clinics (including shifting). Have you checked to see if any near your offer anything like this? In terms of the bike rack, I had a hitch mounted one that worked just fine. Granted, now I don't use it because I'm a sissy and I'm convinced it will scratch the carbon fiber. Lol. So I lay it on a blanket in the back of my hatch back. First swimming lesson went really well! Thanks for all the advice. She is a Total Immersion coach and I really liked her style. I got half the stroke down and was exhausted (and slightly water logged) after an hour. |

I sometimes fold down the back seat and put my bike in (usually take off the front wheel for this). More often I use a Thule hitch rack. |

I drive a Dodge Magnum so the bike fits nicely in the back, with the wheels on However, we have an after-market hitch and a Thule T2 for when we have more than one bike or more than two people. ![]() | ![]() Those are nice now to get DW to say ok ... Also debating on just getting a rear wheel, that's the one that is out of commission, and going power tap alloy. I've been flirting with the idea of a power meter however justifying the cost will be interesting. |

I haven't looked around in awhile, but have been using a pair of Ksyrium Elites the last 5 years with no issues. I opted for those over the Ksyriums specifically because some of the areas mentioned were built up a bit beefier. |

I could not swim one length of the pool and Total Immersion got me swimming. Then once I could swim a few hundred yards I posted some videos on here and Yanti and a few others analyzed and gave me alot of really good pointers. |

Great to hear that your first lesson went so well!! It's always feels good to make some tangible progress right from the start. Although there are some in this group who enjoy their love/hate relationship with their coaches (not it!!), I think it's good at the beginning to have somebody you really click with and feel encouraged by until you gain a little confidence. Keep up the good work! |
