| Swim
Comments: Pretty solid swim other than getting off couse a bit on the last leg to the exit. It was crowded through that section so got blocked some. Nice Lake and felt that I pushed a moderate/comfortable pace What would you do differently?: I was number 328 as the swim start went by order of registration. Made for a busy course. Started about 20+ minutes after the first racers hit the water. Transition 1
Comments: Struggled with swim skin so lost some time there What would you do differently?: Be more efficient. Probably 10-20 seconds slower than most of the top 25 racers Bike
Comments: I really wanted to work on pacing and keeping watts/effort level consistent. Spun up the hills keeping watts in a tolerable range and tried to push the other sections. Ran out of gears on the last couple of downhills heading back to transition. Never felt like I was on the edge or pushing too hard. Definitely could have gone harder but wanted to focus on having a solid bike and run. AP230/NP240 What would you do differently?: Could have gone harder on the bike but would that have hurt the run? Always tough to figure. Transition 2
Comments: Much better. Still felt like I didn't get it all perfect but I'll take it Run
Comments: Felt pretty solid from the beginning so tried to go with a 6:40-45 pace. First 2 miles were right in that range and picked it up some for the last stretch. Felt strong throughout What would you do differently?: Might have been able to push harder earlier in the run but I really wanted to work on my pacing in this race with AG Nats next month...hoping to maintain these bike/run paces through olympic distance. Post race Warm down: Drank some water/Powerade. Visted with friends and Team mates. Hung around for awards then drove 2.5 hours home. There was actually another guy in AG that won grandmasters so I bumped up to first in AG. What limited your ability to perform faster: I didn't crush myself in this race. Really trying to build into last part of season. Event comments: Really well done race. My first time there and really enjoyed it. Slightly cooler morning than typical for this time of year probably helped. Last updated: 2013-07-01 12:00 AM |

Drove up the day before. Picked up packet and drove the bike course Friday evening. The usual crappy sleep. Wonder when I will stop having butterflys before a race? 25+ triathlons and I'm still anxious before a race.
Usual breakfast. Arrived early and there was plenty of parking near transition. Got set up then did a warm up run and swim. Gel 30 minutes pre race.
