Master 10208 Northern IL | Subject: RE: Manatee Mentors 2015.2 CLOSED (Poptarts? Pet pics?) Originally posted by popsracer Originally posted by Jet Black Ok pod, I need some help. I keep getting flats on my bike. At first I thought it was just bad luck but now I'm convinced I'm doing something wrong or something. It's always my rear tire. Two flats Sunday in 2.5 hrs, one flat Saturday in just under and hour (that one cut my ride short because I only had one spare so I turned around). One flat the ride before that. Out of the dozen or so rides I've done since getting the bike, I've had a flat on the rear tire more times than not. I'm thinking either the tubes I'm buying are garbage or there's something wrong with my wheel? I've just been throwing the tubes away but I guess I should be trying to find out if they're popping in the same spot every time before getting rid of them? I don't know what it is but of the ten or so flats I've had over the years I have never flatted the front. Just once I'd llike to go through the change task without getting greasy fingers. As others have said, my first guess is there is still something in there that is not easily seen. Second guess would be worn or misaligned rim tape. Better in training than in a race. Hope you get this years flat out of your system now. Hope you get get to try that without actually going through a front flat out on the ride. They can be a lot harder to control than a rear flat. |

You've put in some hard hard work and you're gonna be great. I can't wait to read your first RR! Edited by laffinrock 2015-02-23 11:42 AM |

Matt Workin' on it, trying to work on it wisely ... nice to see you putting some thought into things, too makes ME think ... think that I should do me some thinkin', too, sometimes! IM Taiwan is totally up in the air. A chunk of my event costs are sponsored so I'll have to put in an appearance and network regardless, will very likely do the swim, possibly do as I did in Malaysia and just see how far I can get on the bike. But I really know how to pick 'em. Malaysia had flying zombie monkeys coming at you, and IMTW has this bike turnaround after 150km ... boy that's gonna be fun. Pennsylvania | Subject: RE: Manatee Mentors 2015.2 CLOSED (Poptarts? Pet pics?) Steve: that looks brutally fun and beautiful! Good job putting a pic of you looking fresh and another of others suffering! MattMS: that is SO exciting! No doubt all those hard workouts you've put in will pay off. Just keep the rubber side down and be careful in bottle hand-up zones, if any. Yanti: easy does it, girl. Slow and steady recovery. Nancy: great job on the races and encouragement over the weekend! Teenagers (eye roll) Mary: glad to hear you are getting a little more activity added to your recovery efforts. Patience, patience. MadMath: good to see you pop in for a visit and glad to see things are coming around for you. Kayak season is coming soon! TJ: I got nuttin' on your run plans, so I'll leave that to the experts. Sean: you've already received great advice/tips on your flatting issue, so I'll just add this: think of all the experience you are banking changing a rear tire! You will be a pro in no time! Now check those tires/rims and stop getting flats, mkay?

Seattle | Subject: RE: Manatee Mentors 2015.2 CLOSED (Poptarts? Pet pics?) Had an awesome charity hockey game. Again thank you to you Manatees who supported us. I believe our team raised about 16,000 dollars for nearly a year of support for families staying in the Ronald McDonald house. I scored a sweet redirection goal (from my defense at the point) and then our game went into a shootout! 3 players from each team were selected to shoot, and I was one of them. I tried my trusty forehand fake, bring it hard across the body and backhand it around the goalie but due to not playing in a year I think I was lacking a little finesse and was rejected by the goalie. Luckily, our 3rd girl made it and we won!
And for the trail race, wooooweeee what a course! Lord Hill, as you might think, is a hell of a hill! The course was about 2K elevation in 2 miles and then a longer 3 mile descent to net zero. I got a little lost and ended up doing 3/4 of an extra loop (my fault) and then was stopped by a course marshal who thought I was going the wrong way (I wasn't, his fault.) But I won women's overall and only 10 seconds from beating the dudes. If I had known the course a little better I think I could have taken down the course record, too. Next time!
Here's a shot of part of "Lord Hill" Edited by Asalzwed 2015-02-23 12:21 PM |

If you decide to participate in IMTW, please note the following: You are NOT allowed to crash out of this race, nor are ER visits or medic assistance to be required after you stop. Got it?! Is Kingsley planning on doing it? |

Here's a shot of part of "Lord Hill" Sounds like a weekend of AH-mazing!!!!!!! Congrats on the goal. So cool. And the trail race?! First OA woman is nothing to balk at, although beating the men too would've been cool. Too bad on the mix-up. Congrats on two great events!!!!!!!! |

Originally posted by jmkizer TJ, Regarding the training plans, I like Hal's weekdays with different distances (different purposes?) and RW's weekends. Are all of the runs on both plans steady state or do some have a speedwork component? I like that the RW has some faster work in it. Strides a few days a week would be good. Consider putting that into the Higdon. The TT as well. Unsure of which is better for TJ, adding in another smaller run or adding the faster part into an existing run. The RW long run takes everything that was previously not liked about the LR and makes it worse. The LR goes from 40-50% of the weekly mileage up to 50-60%. Tthe extra mileage of RW comes from the longer LR's. It was also worse about bridging the gap between the other runs and the long run. Higdon goes from 50% longer than that weekday up to 2x as long by the end. RW varies from 3x-4x throughout the whole plan. |
