Subject: Garmin 305 or bike computer?

Hi, was wondering if I could get some advice.

I order a garmin 305 a few days ago and it should be arriving tommorow.  I also just reveiced a bike computer in the mail as a gift.  It is a Cateye Wireless Strada.  I have very little experience with bike computer or the forerunner GPS, but I do know I can get a bike mount for the 305.

Which should I use on my bike?  What are the advantages and disadvatages of each?

I used both for a while.

The Garmin is nice because you can get HR info and load it into your computer.

The bike computer is nice because it's always on the bike, easier to read (unless you have the Garmin bike mount), the odometer is nice.  Could be a little more accurate if you have it fine tuned.

I switched bikes and only use the Garmin right now, but still plan to add a wireless computer for races.

I like having a bike computer on my bike...doesn't require GPS signal, doesn't get dorked up during races with button hitting (or not hitting), works inside on the trainer.

I suggest trying both to see what you like.  I used both for a long time, but recently removed my Cateye and just use the 305 now.  I like it this way, if only because it's one less thing to have on the bike.  I don't like clutter.

I had both for a while and ended up taking my bike computer off and just using the Garmin's cadence and speed sensor with the watch.

I have the 305 and put a cadence sensor on the roadie and tri bike.  Works well enough for me.  Cadence sensors are under $40 on Amazon, so the cost isn't much different than a bike computer.

I use both as I the Garmin is more for post ride information. The bike computer is always staring you in the face where you have to twist your arm or change your riding position slightly to view the Garmin.

Not if you have a bike mount for it.

I use both, with the bike computer functioning mainly as an odometer to give me total mileage on that bike. Garmin goes from bike to bike with me.
