Hubby had heard this one but I hadn't. Referring to babies in general but after discussion of our 5 month old... We spend the first 3 years of their life teaching them to walk and talk...and then we spend the next 18 years telling them to sit down and shut up. What you got?

because i'm feeling exceptionally pessimistic today...."life is like a $hit sandwhich, the bigger the bite you take, the more $hit you get in your mouth".

A guy I used to work with said being good at your job falls under the "whorehouse philosophy": the better you are, the more you get fached.

Basically it means the better you are at something the more is expected of you and you tend to be given any extra assignments, good or bad over someone who is bad or mediocre at his/her job who won't be given extra things to do seeing as doing their regular amount of work is usually more than enough.

Edited to add: this was at a job where we were paid hourly with no extra pay or incentive to be given said extra work, hence the 'faching'.

Heard somthing similiar about us males;

9 months trying to get out of the womb and the rest of our lives trying to get back in. :0  (I didn't invent that-just repeating it)

Applies to salary positions in management as well... which was where I was at when I first heard it.

Someone at work put this on a bulletin board at work in the breakroom.  It is still up there and I think for about 1/4 of us that work there it is true.

“We the willing, led by the unknowing, are doing the impossible for the ungrateful. We have done so much, with so little, for so long, we are now qualified to do anything, with nothing.”

From a book called 'Daddy Cool'...kind of a primer for dads-to-be:

"The kids are what the money is for...after them comes old age and death".

Maybe not as resonant now that mine are in/close to to college, but still has a certain twang to it...

First time I heard that one was from Robin Williams.

The saying is more tame here : "The reward for good work, is more work."

"Never confuse activity with achievement." <-  Living this one right now.  The two are indiscernible by most folks here.

Activity does not equal productivity.
