I'm registered for the Sprint.

Anyone been on the roads in that area lately? How have they survived the winter?

I will be doing the Olympic, my first Tri.  I’ve been on rollers the past few weeks, but hoping to get out for a ride (30-40 miles) tomorrow and take advantage of the weather.  Any BTers shooting for a qualifying spot for the National Age Group race?  I will obviously will be filling one of the bottom 2/3 spots, just trying to help out you know.

I'm registered for the Olympic.  I did it last year so would like to improve on my time.  This year for training I am going to do a hilly ride at least once a week (once I can get outside that is) as that big long hill was a real killer!

I am registered for the sprint.  This will be my first outdoor tri.  Will be doing a short indoor tri at the end of March which will be a nice warm up.  Looking forward to a great time!

Oh great now I'm confused on the Keuka thread, what about this one?

http://www.beginnertriathlete.com/discussion/forums/thread-view.asp?tid=144113&posts=27&start=1

This is the "official thread". If you have Keuka as one of your planned races in your training blog you will see when new messages are posted on this thread.

All I know is this will be my 1st chance to meet up w/ some BT'ers so I'm looking forward to that and glad to see there's a decent group so far!

And this too is my 1st Oly. I'm seriously in the Clyde division at 6ft 274lbs and will probably be the bodyguard just in front of and clearing the way for whomever is DFL [unless it happens to be me of course but I'm working on preventing that :]

Is the course different this year? What's the feedback on the bike course? (yes, I have slight gravity concerns about added effort required to summit bumps in the road -ha!)

In my experience, the road surface for the first 10 miles or so can be rough. This is one race where you want to make sure you're able to patch a flat on race day, and if you're squeamish about descending take it easy going down those first few hills, particularly on 54. Potholes etc. are usually marked well with yellow paint, but I've still seen good amounts of debris on the course. I almost bought it at 30 mph last year after hitting something on that downhill.

The two mile climb on Pepper Rd. is hard. Be prepared for it. Once you make it to the turnaround on Skyline, you're good.

The descent starting at mile 20 is the payoff for that climb and it's some of the most fun I've ever had in a triathlon.

Just entered the Oly.  I want to try to improve on my relatively poor showing from last year.  Of course, the weather had much to do with last year's results.

I just hope the road conditions are improved.  But I'm not holding my breath.

Hi!!  I am so happy to find this thread!!!  And I am so thankful for this website!!!  I just registered for the Keuka Lake Sprint!!!  Gdale, did you do the indoor triathlon at the Corning Y??  If so, I did as well!!  That was the first time putting everything together & was a lot of fun!  I must admit I'm a bit nervous but excited too!!

I have a question, which may show what a novice I am...can you wear swim socks??  I don't like the mussels!!

Anyway, I am very slow, slow swimmer, and have to walk the run part...  looking forward to it!!

You can wear "swim socks" as long as you don't violate rule 4.9 "Illegal Equipment. Any swimmer wearing any artificial propulsion device, including but not limited to fins, gloves, paddles, or floating devices of any kind shall be disqualified."

I don't remember any mussels last year...but then again the water was so cold I couldn't even think!

Thanks Jon,

I had read some of the rules, but was still concerned since everything about triathlon is new to me...I don't like the mussels, I know it's going to be freezing, and I guess I don't love the rocks!!!  I guess those are all the reasons I really want to wear the socks!!!

No problem. I am not an expert but I would be happy to help you if you have any additional questions.

Last 3 years it's been in the low 60's.

Yes, I did the indoor tri at the Corning Y.  I was in the novice group.  It was also my first time putting it all together.  I had a great time!  Looking forward to Keuka being my first outdoor tri.

So funny!!  I must have been in the same group as you!  I was the really slow swimmer & only girl!!  Anyway, looking forward to Keuka, although the weather today, and the mention of the water temps already has me shivering!!

I think the hot and humid air temperature last year made the water feel colder. However, it felt great to jump back in the lake after the run!

I guess I made the right choice with the long sleeve wetsuit. First tri using a wetsuit. Last tri I did was around 92.
