Subject: RE: Talk to me about the Gary KirbyIt's a great race for first timers! They do a show of hands for beginners before the race and it's always alot. The swim is doable and almost the shortest you'll find. Rest at each wall if you need to. People can pass easily at the wall and the swim time you enter will seed you where you need to be. Between now and then just try to build up from 6x50 to 3x100 to 2x150, then to 300 straight. And like I said, if you don't progress that much, rest at the walls. The bike course is 4 laps, which some people don't like, but I love it. There are people at every turn. I suggest a bike computer to tell your distance in case you lose count of the laps. I like the 4 laps because my family can see more of the race and I get faster every lap as I get comfortable. The run course is also well manned, the Kirby's seem to have a big family and lots of friends, even the little kids get out there handing out water. Not much shade. My only negative for this race is the run is hot, but some of the neighbors put out a sprinkler. Overall it is a less formal race with a very positive atmosphere. Scott Kirby does a great job directing the race and the addition of FS Series proffesional timing and logistical help has made it even better. This was my 2nd tri and it's the only one I have done every year (registered for 4th year already). |
