Overcast
Total Time = 1h 55m 5s
Overall Rank = 416/474
Age Group = 25-29
Age Group Rank = 40/50
Pre-race routine:

Not a good night before--didn't get to bed until 1am, had to get up at 3am. English muffin, water. Left the house at 3:45.
Event warmup:

Parked about a mile from the race, brisk walk in. Some stretching.
Swim
  • 10m 33s
  • 805 meters
  • 01m 19s / 100 meters
Comments:

Not a bad swim, considering :) Was not nearly as nervous as the first time. I feel like I swam better than last time. I wasn't as worried about running into people and actually put my head in the water this time.
What would you do differently?:

As always--train more, train harder. Next season.
Transition 1
  • 03m 21s
Comments:

Cut down on time from last time, but not quick enough. Really need to work on this for next season.
What would you do differently?:

Do it faster.
Bike
  • 1h 06m 3s
  • 17 miles
  • 15.44 mile/hr
Comments:

Was excited and nervous to use my "new" bike. Definitely was better off. About 4 miles into the bike, had a problem with the bike computer--got stuck in the spokes. Had to get off the bike at least 5 or 6 times !!!! to try and fix.
I thought the course was pretty hilly--not very used to riding hills. At the bottom of one of the hills, had to jump off my bike to avoid a crash--just in time for another steep hill. So ended up having to walk my bike up that hill.
The last 10 miles, I had to go to the bathroom SO BADLY, that it was hard for me to concentrate on the bike!
What would you do differently?:

Hmmmmmmm--lots. Wasn't very pleased with everything that went on. BUT!! Was faster than last time, and wonder what my avg speed would have been without all my mishaps. Guess the "new" bike really did help :)
Transition 2
  • 01m 56s
Comments:

Had to stop and use the porta-potty. Didn't take TOO long, but it had to be done :)
What would you do differently?:

? Not have to pee :)
Run
  • 33m 14s
  • 3.1 miles
  • 10m 43s  min/mile
Comments:

2 questions:
1 - Who the hell is Frank, and
2 - What did I ever do to him?
All I have to say about this run is OH MY LORD! So many tough hills--I really thought I was going to die. Heard a lot of talk about Frank's killer hill, so was pretty nervous about it. The course started with a fairly large hill, and when I was done with it, I thought--they weren't kidding...Frank as tough. Only to find another hill, and then it happened...the sign read, "Frank's Killer Hill." WHAT!!! I didn't do it yet??? Needless to say, I had to walk up Frank, dying every step. Wowser. Was very happy to be done with the run.
What would you do differently?:

Not do this run ever again :) Seriously though...I was not rested enough and did not have enough to eat before hand. I was pretty crabby and limited myself I think. It was hard for me to get my mind into it.
When I got the time back though, I was very pleasantly surprised! So that is wonderful :)
Post race
Warm down:

Just seeing the finish was a gift from Heaven :)
Walked around, got some fruit and a bagel. Lots of water.
Hung out with Tupuppy, CindyK, and Coredump. Saw Whizzer finish :) Waited for MarkK--who by the way ROCKED on his 1/2 IM...way to go Mark!!!
Went for lunch and a beverage with CindyK and MarkK. They drove me back to my car (thanks guys!!!) and I went home to SLEEP!

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Myself. Mad at myself now, but was really stressed and tired at the beginning of the day, which just lead through the whole race.
Very difficult race, in my eyes. Not sure that I'd want to do it again...not yet anyway :)

You did GREAT yesterday!!! Look at all of the obstacles you overcame and still completed your Tri, and it wasn't an easy one at that. "Awesome" I'd say.
I really enjoyed your race report......

Hey great job! I think the races that are tough on us teach us a ton more than the easy ones do! Way to stick with it and finish!

What a great job Heather!!  Sounds like a tough race, but you stuck it out and finished strong!!   Way to show Frank who was boss too!!     Next time just pee during your run...it keeps people from passing you AND you save time!!

Nice going! Hey, my hat is off to you just for getting a 2nd race in this season. That's tough about the late night, but I am impressed you fought right through it. Sounds like the swim went quite well, and once you get the tech problems with the bike sorted out, you will be flying through these things. Big congratulations!

Good race!  It was tough but you finished.  Give it a week or so, and you will feel a lot better about it, I think.

You also found out some things to focus on in the future, like nutrition and transitions - just think how great you'll be next year!

Heather, no matter what you think you did GREAT!  Heck, just avoiding that wreck was awesome bike handling skills...and that run isn't fun for anyone...and you overcame all of the problems to STILL do well on the bike!  I think you're awesome!

It was so nice to sit an chat I really enjoyed that, and that was the absolute best bee....ahem "beverage" of my life.

Oh, and I think we need to find out who Frank is...so we can hunt him down.

Wow, you're TOUGH, girl!  And your time on that awful running course beats mine on the flats!

Good job on finishing, and thanks for an entertaining race report.  (I liked the part about Frank.)  :-)
