Subject: May "President's Cup" challenge

As the title suggests, the teams for this challenge will be USA vs Rest of the World (or, more realistically, different USA regions vs Rest of the World) -- expats can ask to be put in their "home" team!!

It's May and we should all be training hard and racing so the challenge is multi-sport: you must post a goal (however small) in all 3 disciplines (unless you've got a medical reason for missing one area). Bonus points are awarded for races and brick training sessions -- 5% of your weekly total in the disciplines that you raced/brick-ed up to a maximum of 10% each week.

For example, if you complete a bike/run brick you get an extra 5% of your running and cycling totals that week. If you have a tri race, you get an extra 5% in all three disciplines.

And as per usual, you can complete up to 110% of your overall goal to help the team along.

To join the challenge, please post here listing:

  • where you're based: state/region/county and country (or for expats, your preferred "home" team)
  • your goal for each discipline (including time or distance)

Any questions, let me know.

cheers,
Gill

Hi Gill,

Nicole (MDHillSlug) has offered to help out. She's in the US (east coast). She posted her offer on the original thread below.

Sounds like a “fun” challenge I have a lot of races in May so that means a lot of extra %

I am located on the Ice cube in the North Atlantic.

Will figure out my goals and report back !

Count me in on this one. This will be my third straight monthly challenge and I think I'm addicted...Cool

Here are my goals:

Swim - 25000 yards

Bike - 275 miles

Run - 70 miles

Whoops, I'm going to have to do some recalculations on my milage goals.  I just readjusted my plan to line up with my "A" race in September so I'll get back to you with my updated goals.

I haven't worked out my goals. Will get onto it.

I'd like to participate.  I'm in Richmond, VA - so East coast for me.

I haven't finalized my goals for next month, but will do that this week.

I would love to participate - I need to put some thought to the goals as well

I'm in PA during the week and NE on most weekends - so I could go in either the east coast or midwest depending on how the teams fall out

OK, my goals are:

  • Swim: 18800
  • Bike: 250
  • Run: 40

I've only got a 4mi race this month. Other than that, my goal is to increase my biking so that I'm somewhat ready for an ADA Tour de Cure metric century in June.

I'm in.

Based in Chicago, IL

* Swim: 17,000 yds
* Bike: 200 miles
* Run: 55

I've got 1 tri on the calendar in May as well. It'll be a doozie as it's supremely hilly...and uh...I haven't been riding hills. At all.

Just to clarify, it's multi-sport races and training sessions that get you the bonus, so for races that means duathlons, aquathons and (of course) triathlons.

Don't worry if you don't have any races, you can still get your bonus points by completing "brick" training sessions -- that's where you train in two disciplines, one immediately after the other. Yes, it's gruelling but it's also great race preparation and they're pretty common towards the end of most BT training plans. So, for example, if you train for 40 mins on your bike and then go straight out for a 5-10min run, that's a brick.

Hope this all makes sense!
