Apparently lots of people are freaking out because there are rumors of gas shortages to Atlanta/Georgia. I just read the recent update on the Ga.Gov. website and it said that the pipeline (in LA) is/might be shut down through the weekend, but there is plenty of fuel in reserve. It also said as long as people don't start freaking out and buying in a panic (fuel they don't really need), we'll be fine.....advice was to buy only what you need and limit travel...the rest was considered rumor.

I'm really surprised that more officials aren't talking about conservation of resources and fuel right now.  I suppose with gas prices at $2.99 (for the regular) out here, people will naturally conserve just because they can't afford it.

In fact, I think I'll ride my bike to swimming tonight.

As I speak, people here in Augusta are lining up at the pumps to pay $3.19. It's crazy. There is plenty of gas, and this freak out is only causing the prices to go higher. As long as people are lined up to pay whatever they charge, what incentive do they have to stop rasing prices. Stupid people piss me off...

I'm proud to say that I didn't freak out and line up at the pumps.  What are us triathlete worried about?  We can just ride our bikes eveywhere!!!  Well, except grocery shopping might be a problem!

They're freaking in NC, too--the governor put out a statement last night talking about the main pipelines being shut down and asking people to hold off on taking long trips, I guess to see if the electricity to the pipelines gets established. Ought to be interesting today.

It's $3.01 here and $3.19 in New Bern, which is about 40 miles away.

Gas slipped up hill this morning in Montreal too. $1.35 a litre which I think is about $5.15 a gallon. The local oil refinery guys are saying we can expect so see $2.00 a liter or $7.58 a gallon by December at the latest.

Fuel oil prices are killing us up here. I heat with oil and my budget plan has gone from just under $200 a month two years ago to $350 a month now. Even at that level I will probably owe a balance to the heating company at the end of heating season in May 06. If there is an upside to all this it's that at least Canada has the second largest oil reserves in the world so while the prices may be going up we aren't likely to run out of the stuff for a while yet - unless China buys all our companies

Oh, you're telling me. And his public affairs person is saying that his travel plans are a 'security matter and will not be discussed'.  Brilliant.

My parents are paying $3.69 in Milwaukee, WI for regular unleaded right now.  Ouch.  Here in Richmond, it's about $3.12, although we have a few stations that have run out of gas.

Saying "don't start freaking out and buying (fuel) in a panic; we'll be fine..." is, in my estimation,  the best way to get people to freak out and rush to the pumps to fill up.

We are paying about $5.00 per gallon here in Ottawa!!!  I doesn't bother me too much because I rarely use the car.

I'm a little nervous about the gas situation, but I know I probably shouldn't be. We're driving from Ohio to Florida for a tri and a vacation. I know, I know this is not the best time, but we've had this planned for many months now, I've paid my entry fees, and we've paid a deposit on the hotel. Hopefully things will get better as the pipelines get back on line.
