Member ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() What do you guys do for you're bike setup for a Full IM? I'm carrying 2 tubes +tire behind the seat and i was wonder if this is a good way to hold all this? Ive seen people shove a tube under the seat bars also. I could put 1 tube under seat, 1 tube in front bag and then what would i do with tire? Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I wasn't planning on carrying a tire for my IM. I do plan to have one possibly in my special needs bag. To those that have done an IM, would you recommend carrying a tire for clinchers? Edited by rjrankin83 2013-06-18 6:12 PM |

To those that have done an IM, would you recommend carrying a tire for clinchers? short of absolutely shredding your tire in glass or something else that's truly catastrophic, I can't think of many blowouts you couldn't fix with a patch. Personally, I wouldn't carry a spare tire (and unless you were very *lucky* with where you flatted, it wouldn't help you in your special needs bag) in an IM race... but I can see why people would want one. To OP, I guess it depends on how much your goal is centered toward finishing or finishing the fastest you can. If completing is the goal, then what you've currently got should work fine. |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() its a good question, whether to take a spare tire, or not. I didn't take a spare with the one IM I've done, but my second IM is coming up and worth considering again. Probably will not take a tire. |

Regular ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I'm carrying 1 tube folded up and taped underneath my seat between the seat rails. I am also carrying 2 CO2 canisters, 1 tube, 1 tire lever, and 1 multitool in bag that goes under the rear of my seat. I'm also going to have a small amount of black electrical tape in my bag as well for any emergencies. I'm not bothering putting a tire in special needs as I am not going back over on monday to claim my special needs bags. Figure too if I ruin a tire enough to not ride on, I won't be anywhere near special needs anyways so it doesn't really matter. |

Member ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() The thought of getting out there and shredding a tire with nothing to replace it and getting a DNF after training all year would really really suck. |

![]() | ![]() I got a flat at IMFL last year in the first 15 miles... I would carry one tube & 2 CO2s. I would only carry 2 water bottles too. I felt like people were putting way too much stuff on their bike at IMFL. I would put extra tire, tube & co2 in special needs. |

Member ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() It does seem a little excessive.. I'm starting to rethink my strategy lol |

![]() IMCDA doesn't have neutral support with spare wheels? ETA: from the CDA athlete guide Note: Technical support vans will be on the course to assist with emergency repairs whenever possible; such as replacement tubes, tires, chains, etc. Technical vans will be on the course throughout the day, but are limited in number. Please be self-sufficient. I'd bring my own spare tubes...but if I shred a tire, I'm waiting for the van to help me. I sure as heck ain't bringing a spare chain, etc. Edited by Jason N 2013-06-18 6:59 PM |

Champion ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I would go with my normal flat kit - one tube, two CO2s, patch kit, tire irons, $5 bill and small multitool. Shane |

Master![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I used to put 1 tube in special needs and keep 1 on the bike. But it's easy enough to just carry 2 tubes. There are so many places to put them. Behind the saddle, under the saddle, taped inside the aerobars under a torpedo bottle cage, bento box, tri-top back pocket, tri top near your collarbone if you don't have pockets, taped inside your helmet, etc etc. Don't worry about the tire but have a dollar bill or something in case you need to cover a big rip. |

Regular ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I don't carry patches. never had much luck with them but perhaps I am just too impatient for them to work right. I'll carry 2 tubes, 1 tube left at special needs. I second on ppl carrying too much water on the bike. I will take my aero bottle, and have one bottle in the cage on the seat tube. |
